Work to start on $2.3m Mawson Lakes sporting hub

from Adelaide Now:
WORK on a $2.3 million sporting hub in Mawson Lakes will start early next year, with local schools and sporting clubs set to benefit. The project will include a $1.5 million oval, a redesign of the Mawson Lakes Palms Golf Course, multiuse hard courts, new lighting, toilets and change rooms. It will be built on the corner of Mawson Lakes and University boulevards, and will be funded by the Mawson Lakes Community Trust Fund, UniSA and Endeavour College. The project also received a $125,000 grant from the State Government for the oval lighting. The upgrade will include an extension of the nearby wetlands and the grounds will be used by the university and Endeavour College for football, cricket, soccer and athletics. Mawson Lakes residents will have access to the grounds and local sports clubs could also play there in future. Palms Golf Course president Peter Thomson said the project had been three years in the making. "Our members are hanging out for this to happen and we are very excited to see work commence," he said. "We will have three new holes, three holes upgraded and our course will be confined so the final hole will finish by the club house." The golf course will have access to recycled water from the wetlands to reduce reliance on mains water. Mr Thomson hoped the redevelopment, which is expected to be finished by midway through next year, would boost membership at the club.

I wonder if this will include a new gym as well, the current UniSA sports center is quite old in the tooth.

A couple of new proposals at Mawson Lakes. I really like the Parade Apartments proposal.

they need to design buildings to respect and honor the land that was there before.
Image

Therefore they should build building's in the shape of clumps of swampcrap.

Clearly you are confused with West Lakes. Mawson Lakes was never swamp land, it was originally used for sheep grazing/breeding.

Originally? A couple of centuries ago there were no sheep at all in South Australia.

If there wasn't a swamp there, why was the Bennett Drain constructed?

Swampland is compatible with sheep grazing, and some breeds are well suited to it. Romney Marsh is the one that immediately springs to mind, but there are others.
