I agree. The Advertiser has stuffed up figures such as these before.

We should only start to cut our wrists once an official DA is lodged with the ACC for a smaller design. Until then, this one is still officially 21 levels.

Furthermore, I find it dissapointing that despite the upturn in the economy, projects still require 100% occupancy to get funding. Furthermore, I hope Adelaide & Bendigo Bank leave some breathing room in their new building. It would be stupid to build without leaving room for future growth, such as the new Santos HQ.

Remember they will be vacating three buildings to occupy one. That's not going to help the developer lease the remaining floors.

Investors are normally risk adverse, even more so after the GFC. Once bitten twice shy and all that.

Obviously being the majority tenant they will have absolute naming rights to the tower, but I am puzzled as to why the number of floors have to be reduced.

Quote from article

"We would expect the new building to be slightly lower as we would need about 18,000sqm of space," Ms Thredgold (Corporate Resources Executive) said.

Reading through older posts...
I noticed this also, it appeared to me that they are setting up to be able to restrict traffic adjacent the HS site. A promising sign to me.

I'm not a fan of this building either veemur, but seriously...

:?: That's a cleaning issue mate, not justification for demolition and rebuilding. Carpark buildings are basically the most expensive for rate of return as they come.

How about the fact that the water shedding system means the entire place is soaked when it rains (both from leaks and cars bringing water in). As a result the concrete is rotting in a lot of places, and the exit lanes area often is flooded in winter.

I would like to see that car park go, but it's part of the plans we last saw to retain it as well as make a connecting ramp on the upper level to the new building. Here's hoping that they at least refurb the car park.

OK, reality check time.

Do we really think this is going to go ahead? A building taller than any other built during the economic boom? A building designed and lodged in mid-2008 at 102m and 21 levels?

I suspect this will get the chop to suit the potential tenant, that's IF Bendigo and Adelaide Bank give the green light. They are only in discussions yet a lot of people think it's going to be built!

Awaiting for a new DA application on this one, anything else is just like the Federal Labor party, hot air

Very valid points and I share your concern along with many others on S-A I am sure.

That being said, they have shed a lot of paying tenants which eludes to them still going ahead.

Having shed so many tenants would also offer some further encouragement to continue moving along the process, or just to crap themselves and quickly re-let and accept having made huge losses and appearing foolish.

Would I be fair in saying you made the above comment up... I thought it was suss when I read "the building will be lower". Why would that concern Adelade/Bendigo Bank.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank picks Harris Scarfe site on Grenfell St for Adelaide CBD
headquarters

MEREDITH BOOTH From: The Advertiser November 03, 2010 2:14PM

BENDIGO and Adelaide Bank have identified the Harris Scarfe building on Grenfell Street as its preferred site to house the bank's 1000 Adelaide-based staff.

"Discussions with a developer will continue over the coming months in an effort to negotiate a suitable outcome for the bank and its Adelaide-based staff,'' chief executive Mike Hirst told shareholders at the bank's annual meeting in Adelaide.

The bank had scrapped plans to converge three separate sites into a $110 million green-friendly building on Hindmarsh Square earlier this year.

Owners of the Harris Scarfe building, Alteman (SA), have plans for a 19-storey office tower between Rundle Mall and Grenfell St at an estimate cost of $150 million.

The department store, which has occupied the same Grenfell Street site since 1877, the current building built in the 1920s, is expected to occupy the first four storeys.

bloody fantastic news.

regardless of the size in reality it is going to be a massive boost for the mall.

espeically having 1000 workers sitting on top of it.
