Borders were paying around $25,000 a week for that site. The owners seem to think they will be able to get that sort of rent again. Not in this retail environment! (unless high end fashion?)

Thats insane. Maybe the monthly rent amount I was told is true, if borders was being charged that much per week.
I seem to recall an AdelaideNow article saying rent in the mall is something like $3,000 sq mtr.
They wonder why people are closing down.
Not retail, but still commercial property in the City, apparently its better for the owner of my works building to have no tenants as he can say its worth more than it is in terms of potential rental return meaning he can borrow more. The whole system is screwy!

According to the ad, it's 1500 sqm for the two floors, so that's only $880/sqm pa. Quite cheap for Rundle Mall. As duke said, over $3000/sqm is not unheard of.

Mate, i know about listeria - but it relates to certain dishes only (uncooked fish, cold rice, etc). There's still plenty of Japanese food that can be eaten during pregnancy. Listeria can be found in any restaurant if basic kitchen sanitation and food handling practices are not upheld.

Indeed, that is true. However for pregnant women the general advice given is to only consume freshly cooked food. Hence, with Japanese restaurants, even if the women were to order something that isn't raw, rice, soy, tofu, chicken...etc; the problem is that these products have come into contact with the kitchen, hence even though the risk of cross contamination is small in real-life, it is better to be safe than sorry, and just tell pregnant women to avoid Japanese food during their pregnancy.
(I wonder what advice is given to Japanese women in Japan)

rice and chicken? I'm sure it's not exclusively Japanese kitchens that deal with those.
I'm willing to bet my fiancé will insist on more Japanese food if/when she is pregnant, rather than less.

Yep, we're debating a situation which suffers from a mix of fact & overly cautious behaviour. I performed rigorous analysis (3 minutes of google searches focused on government funded research) and found Australia has ~60 cases a year, with most arising from soft cheeses, deli meats, pre-packaged sandwiches, and various fruits and vegetables. No theme associated with japanese restaurants (could be because they pose no additional threat, or that pregnant women tend to stay away from them).
Anyways, back to new Retail in the CBD...

and that is the problem with eating out
it is the time between being cooked or cleaned and being served - hence Sushi which can be made in the morning but still be "fresh" in the afternoon but the rice may have listeria
hence why preggo women can't have a ceaser salad because there is not time frame between the lettuce being washed and then being served - the same goes for the egg.
but CBD retail.....

I think the Coles express rumours are wrong. Have myself heard a tenant won't move in till late NEXT year.

Megabike will be moving in to the former Big Star space on Rundle St, which puts them directly opposite Super Elliots. It could get ugly!
That now means there will be 5 bike shops in the immediate vicinity, (Super Elliots, Megabike, Treadly, Pedal & Thread, and Giant)

It doesn't. I just know the one in the mall is one that is going.
