Even that. I've been following the hi-speed train links through California debate since (checks) 2007. They're still debating silly things like how close to schools is safe.

Good points, Amused. Thankyou for clearing that up for me.

My apologies for sounding too specific; my point was that by the time the Hospital is paid off, won't the facilities be a little outdated?
I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back. :)

I think from the rumours floating around our circles and seems to be enforced on the ward plans is that the hospital will be designed to be modular so that extensions are easilly added at a later time, something I was saying needed to be done about emergency departments for the past five years. The difference though that in my thought plan, more modules than are necessary should be included an those modules should remain closed until demand requires it then can be opened up to relieve numbers and then closed again in low volume days.
30 years is probably not very long in hospital building time. It is in medicinal/therapy advancements though but these won't be impacted by the facilities that they are in to any large extent. Considering people are proclaiming loudly that nothing is wrong with the existing 170 year old building. (I know that's a tad exadurated as many of the builings were built on after the initial foundation but you know what I mean) And hospitals have round the clock maintenance staff so just like a 30 year old helicopter is in far better shape than most 30 year old cars, a 30 year old hospital will be in far better condition than a 30 year old house/shop/other building of choice.

Why not?, the current RAH is built opposite the vibrant East End precinct and the future RAH will be built opposite Adelaide's largest nightclub - HQ

:) you're clutching at straws there, North Tce is quite wide, the hospital is well set back from the street and it currently looks onto the Botanic gardens

Wow lots of detailed material there, great find Ben. It's going to take some time to get though, but I almost had a heart attack when I saw car parks on level 1 on the North Terrace front in the plans. I didn't realise they were underground!

Had a good look over the plans and I have to admit, I am overwhelmingly impressed. Really looking forward to this one getting off the ground. It's quite a substantial project in size and in benefit.

We should easily see 8-10 cranes for this one.

Makes a nice change to see so much detail being put into the appearance aswell as the interior of the new RAH. Looks far more impressive than the new hospitals being built in Melbourne, Perth and Gold Coast.

Noticed the plan to build a train station alongside the hospital has been axed, interesting.

That is one big mother of a building. How on earth anyone managed to draw that is beyond me.

It certainly looks great - the exterior finishes are bold and interesting, and the cluster of the RAH and the SAHMRI lozenge next door is very crisp indeed. Without knowing the first thing about what makes a good hospital floorplan, it seems to be a far more straightforward layout than either Flinders or the existing RAH (it is, effectively, a large rectangle with barnacles), and that can only be a good thing.

The old plans for the RAH... very average looking compared to now

Even the design for the SA Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) has changed dramitically from this

to this

The new RAH will be the opposite to the current rabbit warren on eastern North Terrace..

It's very refreshing to see some stunning architecture be proposed for Adelaide, something we haven't seen for a few years now. Good on the government for leading the way, now we need the private sector to follow.
