Personally, I feel a Modbury freeway would make more sense along the O'Bahn channel with designated bus-lanes on the side.
The area isn't wide enough for two normal lanes, let-alone 4 to have dedicated lanes.
Speeds would be reduced.
It would impact on the catchment area, the walking and bike trails.
The residents would suffer from increased noise from traffic.
It would never happen. The O'Bahn is very successful and should be continued.

Duke,
You do realise the O-Bahn corridor, is the route of the original Modbury Freeway? There is certainly room for 4, even 6 lanes. Yes, this would seriously impact the associated greenbelt and walking trails, but to say there's no room, is untrue.

For mine, we should in no way be encouraging what would be purley a commuter freeway in place of the O-Bahn. It would only serve to encourage additional car use and urban sprawl in the NE. This is not a freight route, and it is not part of the national highway. Some parts of the MATS plan were worthwhile, then others, would have made Adelaide as car centric as Los Angeles. Replace the O-bahn with rail maybe, but denfinately not a freeway.

agreed
luckily for us, the ACC won't be making calls on it any time soon

Why cant there be a freeway with integrated rail or (dedicated) bus only lanes up the middle?

There's no physical reason, but it begs the question of where would those cars go when they reach Acne Road? If they just spilled out onto already congested streets, it would not work. So it would have to be done in conjunction with some other measures to increase traffic flow within the CBD and to the CBD from there. Mind you, it'd be worth suggesting an extra four lanes taken off the parklands and ripping down one side of Rundle St to widen it, plus a great big car park in the East End Markets. Wouldn't that make the grumpy old men and nimbys go apopleptic.
Just getting an O-Bahn through the parklands was difficult. Suggesting the works that would be required to make a new expressway (Not using the "F" word here) work would be as popular as a fart in a lift.

Because it would be expensive and environmentally destructive, and bring very few benefits. The Do Nothing option would be far superior.
And why would you want that part of the MATS Plan implemented anyway? Aren't you aware that MATS included a far more useful freeway to the NE suburbs?

Failed Lord Mayoral candidate and park lands campaigner, Kelly Henderson has caused a delay on the $160 million O'Bahn extension by disrupting work in the park lands.
Drilling was being conducted on sections of Rundle Park to take earth samples before construction starts on the bus tunnel, which is planned to go under the area.
But work had to be stopped after failed lord mayoral campaigner and Parklands advocate Kelly Henderson entered into the drilling site and refused to leave.
...
Ms Henderson promised to return to the Parklands to continue her protest against the O-Bahn and threatened legal action unless it was scrapped.

“What the (State) Government is doing is illegal and illegitimate. The Parklands were purchased for the exclusive use of the inhabitants of Adelaide as a recreational park.”
And the workers were simply undertaking some recreational drilling. Completely within their rights!

Haha, oh Adelaide, that's the sort of people who get up and run for positions of authority and power. Imagine she actually got voted in. If she's willing to interfere with work sites now, I'd hate to think what lengths she'd go to if she was mayor.
I never said I wanted a freeway to go over the obahn. I simply asked, Aidan, why cant there be both.

I don't have a problem with people getting worked up about interfering with the parklands, especially for stupid projects.
You know what, imagine if the parklands between North Terrace and the Torrens wasn't given up to commercial interests, I reckon that part of the city would haveone been so much better, plus those buildings could have been build in the actual CBD.
but anyway, noone can accuse me of holding onto things

rev, the other planned freeway became Montague Road, with a (so far unbuilt) extension to the PREXY.
With the extension built, Montague Road could (at great expense) be upgraded to freeway status, but without the need to connect to the Modbury Freeway there's really no point.

There's still sufficient land on either side of Montague Road too. Would love to see it connected to PRExy though. One day.

sure you don't mean McIntyre Road. I thought the original Modbury freeway proposal followed the current o'bahn route up until Holden Hill (where the big o'bahn bend is) and then went over NE Road to what is now McIntyre Road
