A beautiful design comparable to the Colonial Mutual Life Building but a lot larger. Will stand the test of time.

aah they finally fixed the broken fin on the west side. That was so triggering.

Surely you're taking the piss. This is an abomination.

I guess if it had windows all the way round, it would be more acceptable. However it sure ain't a CML Building, even in the modern sense. So, let's hope this will inspire a set of taller and better designed buildings around it. Switch deserves to fade into oblivion.
Cheers

On the bright side, we actually got the better "switch"

...and it's not even close.
Also, it's not just that the Perth Switch is the ugliest piece of shit built in the last decade.
It's not just that Adelaide's Switch is not too bad.
It's that.... this... maybe looks down right kinda okay? It will have its ugly angles (viewed square in front), but at certain angles the fins will be quite catching.

Very much so. The Perth example, stained concrete and all is, well, interesting. I'm trying to be polite.Algernon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 8:09 amOn the bright side, we actually got the better "switch"

I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation before but the Perth building could have looked acceptable with a decent surface finish - reflective silver cladding for example or even just a lighter and less dreary colour of pre-cast. As it stands it's horrendous.
Is that the finished article? There's still some construction going on above the podium in those photos.
I'd rank ours as nothing more than a bog-standard, low budget building - the fins do add some interest when viewed from an angle but that is quickly lost on an overcast day. Even with the fins it looks pretty rubbish when viewed perpendicularly from North Terrace:
The concrete is certainly much better than the Perth example, we can at least be thankful they didn't make that mistake here.
I feel this would have been more acceptable anywhere else in the city but given its prominence on North Terrace it should be held to a higher standard than it otherwise would.

Both buildings are very average but I would take ours over the Perth project any day. At least this one has some articulation with the fins and the 3 notable breaks in the towers design. The Perth one is so homogeneous and flat.

Perth had it's height shortened slightly to 121m so they're nearly exactly the same height as ours

A few photos from yesterday evening when it was overcast, and a couple from this morning in the sun (because everything looks better in the sun).

The scaffolding coming down around the heritage component of this development, not sure if that's the final restoration effort but if it is, it's of a pretty poor standard. The stone masonry has been restored but the shades of the grout and new stone work are rather obviously inconsistent with the pre-existing.
