Hope it doesn't rain

Looks more like a graveyard than a tennis stadium.

Actually no if you were able to think about it laterally
A Davis Cup final held in Adelaide in front of such a huge crowd as opposed to the current bandaid which seals the stadiums fate as far as a big tournament goes
And Norman don't forget it's an old black and white photo
So , no . Spraying air freshener on dog shit doesn't make it better.

Hmm. Fans sitting square on to a centre court which is diagonally tens of metres away. Check. Barely adequate makeshift facilities. Check. Much fanfare from adoring Adelaide media ignoring Adelaide facilities as a laughing stock. Check. Not much has changed in 70 odd years eh?

Luckily for 75% of the seats at Memorial Dr, you very much have to think "laterally" in order to see the court

While the spectator facilities weren't crash hot, apparently the players actually enjoyed using the football change rooms as their locker room and the Magarey Room as the players lounge.

Hey guys - I shot some video and photos when I went to the Adelaide International last week, with a good friend of mine, and edited them together into a promotional highlight reel of sorts. Gives a good impression of the general event layout and main stadium upgrade. Which was nothing amazing, but certainly got the job done. Shame about the low mid-week turnout though.
One of the biggest announcements in this year’s budget is a $44 million stage-two redevelopment of the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
The Government says the project, to be complete by the end of next year, will transform the centre into “a state-of-the-art arena for sporting, arts and entertainment events”.
It will feature four new grandstands to increase seating capacity to 6000, event and function spaces, elite training and recovery facilities, digital infrastructure and improved access to Adelaide Oval.
Treasurer Rob Lucas said a business case was already complete.
“Its prime purposes will obviously be for tennis, but also for events such as concerts and artistic events, and festivals are potentially going to be utilising that particular space,” he said.

I remember we said some of the sight lines were poor during the Adelaide International so are these new stands helping with that at all somehow?
Would changing the orientation of the court help?

So in this area you look straight onto the side of one of the new stands, which obviously impacts how useful the seats are there, as shown at the last Adelaide International.
Maybe some of this can be avoided on the other stand as it will now have two tiers and a higher rake?

So I guess this means no basketball or netball in the city for a while, which is a real shame imo. Wonder if the design of this project allows for future expansion, hopefully.

That artists rendition is a comical reduction from the early renders, puts some of the bait and switch from the last few years of city high rise proposals to shame. You just knew it was going to end this way after the interim government put the pergola over the top and called it a fine new development.
