Patrick_27, is there a reason why you left out Perth (Optus) Stadium?
Yep, two reasons. First (and the same reason that I left out Marvel Stadium and AAMI Park), Optus Stadium is not one of the main cricket grounds in Australia (it's a football stadium with major cricket events held there). Second, it's a billion dollar stadium and the newest stadium in Australia, of course it's going to go unmatched in terms of what it offers. Besides, Optus Stadium is only a year and bit old and it doesn't have a timber hotel slapped onto the side of its stands!

Slightly OT, but I wasn't really a fan of Optus Stadium. It won't age well. It was just...a stadium.

Patrick_27, football, cricket what does it matter? It's what Adelaide Oval or its replacement should've been from the start. Aging? ChillyPilly what are you talking about? Perth (Optus) Stadium looks (the facade) is comparable to many great stadiums worldwide. AO from the outside is a mish-mash of all sorts of things! Forget the inside. The northern end with the moreton bays and the little of what's left of the grass hill won't save it. As for the hotel component, what is wrong with timber? Besides the hotel isn't finished yet. The timber should be covered up. I've said it before, perhaps not with these words, but AO and the hotel are like a pimple on top of a wart. The hotel component has not ruined the stadium it has just complemented the ugly exterior and its other failures that many don't want to acknowledge.

What we now have to hope for is the hotel not to be a failure, that it gives people employment and generates good revenue for the AO management. Hopefully so they can stop gouging patrons!

Cheers

P.S. This will be my last comment on the stadium under this topic, and if I feel like making comments regarding the hotel I'll do so without mentioning the stadium.

I've been inside Optus Stadium. It is literally nothing exceptional or special.

Doesn't look like much from the outside
Just another concrete glass and steel bowl
Adelaide at least has a magnificent aesthetic and aura

Me and friends identified the hilarious irony of the stadium resembling a giant buffering logo.

by how good is he
Quite ironic there won’t be any spectators/events to hinder/delay the construction.

Yeah, some people need to realise that the world isn't as narrow minded as they think and that making our world better inevitably involves change.

Actually really like how it looks, was skepticism at first, but I like the uniqueness of having a hotel in that location now

It’s always interesting to get an external point of view and Fox Cricket just picked their Top 10 World Cricket venues. They say we’ve “slipped back in recent years” so I wonder if a stadium hotel will help or hinder that impression?

“Adelaide Oval has become one of the great multipurpose venues, but that has come at a cost in terms of cricket. The ground was always firmly in the mix whenever a debate about the world’s greatest cricket venue broke out, but it’s slipped back in recent years.

Nonetheless, the ground hasn’t entirely lost its charm. The St. Peter’s Cathedral is still visible, the glorious, century-old scoreboard remains on the hill and the festival atmosphere in and around the ground is alive as well. The ground has also become the home of day-night Test cricket, hosting the world’s first match in 2015 and the first Ashes day-nighter in 2017.”

The SCG is rubbish. This list loses all credibility with that inclusion.

The ratings are for the best cricket venues, not for the best stadium. The SCG IMO has a great mix of old and new, plenty of history both inside and outside. It's quite pleasing to the eye when viewed on TV also.
