When did the plans and renders on display in the City Cross Food court come down? I remember them being on display for years.

Can anyone please confirm if council approved the demolition of the existing buildings on the site [and when]...it would be a touch hypocritical of Harbison if they havent.

hmmm, is it just me, or is anyone else starting to raise a few eyebrows with this Makris fellow. Ok there is a credit squeeze going on, but if you are getting commitment from retailers, get on with it, ffs. Im actually in agreement for once with Harbo

I'm glad this info has come up. On my 'inspection of works' tour on 7/1/09 I went to the site and saw the large display board of the bldg and that it has not come down - suggested to me that it will be built. For those discouraged by the time lapse, this is a common thing (esp with the GFC) - eg. a 6 level apartment block proposed in Mount Gambier is undergoing a similar delay despite approval and support etc. etc.

Demolition approval was granted by Paul Holloway last friday (jan 8 2010). So Makris can officially get going...

I wonder how long before anything significant actually happens.
its one thing knocking down a building its another thing putting one up.

Well to build something, you first have to knock the current buildings down.

thats true, but knocking down a building doesn't mean construction is imminent

Considering that there was a building there 20 years ago, this is correct.
Or *tin foil hat on* it could just be that they're trying to remove some of the tenancies from O'Connell street to increase demand for the shopping centre on the other side of the road.

The ex-Cafe Paesano building is expected to be on the ACC secret list of new properties to add to their heritage register, hence, Makris is probably acting pre-emptively.

Excellent to see - i've been waiting and watching this thread a long time to see anything happen - much better than the black hole of Adelaide there. That old bldg on the corner was somewhat of an eyesore anyway - past use by date. The new bldg will really give Nth Adelaide a true developed linear inner suburban CBD of some size. Love the design - worth waiting for IMO. Now needs the trams there to complete the picture.
