SA Scan lists a fire alarm. Station looks fine other than countless buckets so you're probably correct.

I saw a fireman going into the toilets. Maybe that's where the problem occurred.

Outer Harbor Line/Port Dock should be next railway to be electricified

What's embarrassing is that in the time it's taken to deliver this project alone, the Melbourne Metro tunnel has pretty much been seen practical completion. It doesn't matter whose in government here, the delivery of these projects has historically been appalling. I'm all for electrifying Outer Harbour/Port Dock and maybe Belair, but not if we're going to see replacement bus services for three years and a project start to completion of a decade; it's not worth it.

the interest on their debt alone is half of SA's total debt

they'll pay for it somewhere down the line and it wont be pretty

Comparing its debt levels to ours is in that way doesn't really tell us much.

They are multiple times bigger than us in pretty much every economic way.

Mind you they have a lot of debt!

The Andrews Government cops a lot of flak, most of it driven by the staunch Liberal Party supporters at News Corp, but their current projects and investments will set the state up well in the future. Projects such as the Metro Tunnel, Suburban Rail Loop, Regional Rail Revival and Level Crossing Removal Project are all smaller pieces that combined will have a strong impact.

That debt is about 24% of Victoria's whole GDP, and in fact helps to slightly vindicate the decision to can the Commonwealth Games.

There's good debt and bad debt.

Good debt is infrastructure that provides value to taxpayers.

Bad debt is throwing $5bn at submarines that won't be built. Or $40bn to companies that didn't need it. Or $10bn on the Murray Darling Basin Plan for precisely zero extra water.

In Victoria we can see, upgraded rail both regional and in the city. Removing rail crossings that enabled much faster trips for motorists...at the cost of more debt.

In SA, there's less debt, but no regional rail nor a city underground loop.

So, debt can be good or bad. We can have more infrastructure if we are prepared to take on more debt. Or, equally we can have less infrastructure if we don't want to take on more debt. Both are fair positions.

The only time I roll my eyes is when people propose expensive projects like a city rail loop and regional train services is if they then grump about the debt needed to fund them.

Precisely. Nobody complains about how hard or expensive it was to build the City Loop 40+ years ago, these projects will quickly be integrated into daily life and nobody will give them a second glance because it just works. Even most of the noise generated to oppose the level crossing removals has dissipated.

Look at this.....the Coburg train station in Melbourne rebuilt in the style of an Art Deco cinema!

Bloody brilliant urban renewal and transport upgrade at the same time !

I bet you all the whingers who lived in the area weren't complaining when their house values rose by 50k as soon as the train station reopened.
