It's easier to just change the traffic signal cycles. Make all of those signals pedestrian scrambles and give them a scramble twice per cycle. This is a low cost solution to the problem.

I am all for getting traffic from the cbd.

But the state govt needs to get serious about the ring route and PT on the route

They need to make it quicker to not go through the CBD.

Bus cuts announced.....heavily focussed on outer northern and southern suburbs.

Bus timetable changes January 2019
The State Government has completed a review of public transport services announced in the State Budget to improve the efficiency throughout the network and provide better services.

As announced in September, the review had identified low patronised bus services with an average number of five or less passengers per trip and services duplicated by existing train lines that provide a more efficient service.

The changes will come into effect from Sunday 27 January 2019 with new timetables available from mid-January.

Changes are detailed below.

Reduced frequency to every 30 minutes between 9.40am and 3.25pm Monday to Friday due to close proximity to Outer Harbor train line
Inbound services departing Victoria Road 60 at 10.25am, 11.25am, 12.25pm, 1.25pm, 2.25pm and 3.25pm removed

Bus cuts are heavily focused on outer northern and southern suburbs....no surprises there (car dominated low density suburbia with few "destinations" apart from shopping centres)

Whilst I dont object to rationalisation where services are duplicated (bus and train along the same corridor) I wish things like "feeder" buses in Adelaide are a little better thought out......224 Elizabeth to Mawson Lakes....a feeder bus for whom to get where?

Really most feeder buses should be east-west rather than north-south parallel to the railway.

And the 150 bus has been cut to 30 minute day time services, fair enough as it duplicates the Outer Harbor train service, but how about displaying the train AND bus timetables on Port Road AND at the train stations.....so people who dont know Adelaide public transport inside out realise there is an alternative close by.

As an outer northern suburb resident, I agree that more east-west routes would be good (but I'd also admit I hardly ever catch buses, maybe because of this). We have 44x routes between Elizabeth, Smithfield and Munno Para via eastern suburbs and 45x routes through the Elizabeth and Smithfield hubs on the western side extending through Munno Para but not serving that station (and 46x serving Munno Para West and Angle Vale from Smithfeld). There is no route between suburbs east of Main North Road and west of the railway line.

The 150 surprises me. I'd often catch it because for most of last year I had a weekly appointment at Port Adelaide that followed onto a weekly appointment in the East End so I caught it a lot, it always seemed to be more full than average for an 1pm weekday bus by the time it got into the city. I don't know the route it takes up the Lefevre Peninsula very well but I would've thought you could just split the route and have a 151 or something that departs from Port Adelaide if rail duplication is an issue.

Time to bring back the SL routes with mini buses because surely it will be more cost effective to run mini buses at night than big buses.

Whilst you are at it merge some routes at night. For example:

the 400 and 401 could be replaced by the former 402.
The 404, 405, 411 could be replaced by the former 412.

443 already replaces 441 and 442 at night in that model.

While running a minibus would clearly consume less fuel than a bigger bus, the other costs of running a fleet might mean that the total cost of ownership doesn't justify increasing the size of the fleet with a new model, since the driver cost is the same, but service and maintenance costs increase with each type at a depot.

Increasing the range of available routes by using the minibuses during the day on marginal routes could look attractive, but then the operators (or government) would get criticised for having routes that are only served during peak times and aren't available at night because the smaller buses are moved to the bigger routes.

Perhaps Knoll needs to spend less time working out how he would like his name pronounced and more time actually doing his job. So far he's been pretty incompetent as a minister. Not Corey Wingard levels yet, but getting there.

A new congestion-busting bus service connecting the inner northern suburbs with the east side of town will be proposed to the State Government.

Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council will write to the Transport Minister Stephan Knoll seeking a feasibility study into the potential introduction of the new route

It could run, the council says, off North East Rd and Nottage Tce, Medindie Gardens, to Kensington Rd, along Stephen Tce, Nelson St and Osmond Tce.

Spearheading the push, Mayor Robert Bria said almost all bus routes in NP&SP ran in an east-west direction, and in and out of the Adelaide CBD.

“To go from North East Rd to Currie St to The Parade can take up to 40 minutes,” Mr Bria said.

“Cutting it to about 12 to 15 minutes would be ideal.”

With the former Caroma site on Magill Rd poised to make way for a seven-storey development and up to 200 residential apartments, traffic would increase on Magill Rd, Nelson St and Osmond Tce.

The new bus route had the potential to create more economic opportunities for businesses along Magill Rd and The Parade.

Mr Bria said a new bus route would also allow residents living in the inner north and working in the east to avoid taking a bus into the CBD and then another out again.

“The State Government is currently conducting a review on bus services so it makes sense to make this approach now, whilst consideration is being given to what a future public bus service will look like,” Mr Bria said.

Cr Sue Whitington agreed, saying it was an “excellent opportunity for consideration”, while Cr Christel Mex said a new bus route was “really needed” with “all the infill we’re having”.

Council pipedreams......where are some numbers from the council? At least a guestimate of the number of people to use the new service?

The DPTI would have the true numbers of people commuting from the inner north to the inner east via Metrocard/Metroticket validations.
I doubt this justifies a new bus route (especially at a time when Knoll is looking to cut the number of under-performing bus routes).

Adelaide is a CBD centric/radial city.....good service into the CBD and out again is the most practical solution to cross-suburban travel via public transport.
