The fatality last year was at North Adelaide Station. This incident was at the crossing between the station and Torrens Bridge which had remained closed since the Torrens Junction work in 2017/8 until last month when the automatic gates commissioned.

The tracks are on a curve and trains are traveling at speed since most don't stop at North Adelaide station. Drivers can't see anything until it's too late.

Ever since the previous fatality, trains have limited their speed around that curve (even if they're not stopping at North Adelaide), and usually (but to be fair, not always) sound their horn.

The active crossing gates are now operating at both North Adelaide Station, and where this incident occurred, so it's important they investigate the circumstances.

The photo in the article shows an Adelaide Metro railcar, but no where has anyone said that's what struck him. There's also the ARTC track there and goods trains take a lot longer to stop. They're also going quite fast, they can come from either direction and because they are less frequent, pedestrians don't pay as much attention to the ARTC track.

At Nth Adelaide Station the ARTC line does have a separate crossing. However at Torrens Jn (where this week's incident took place) there is a single crossing across all 3 tracks which is activated by either ARTC or DTI trains.
