That's a shame, would have nicely impacted that area.

The garden store is only a short term use for the land.

However this project is dead in its present form. The developers are contemplating building a student apartment building instead.

I should hope they forget any notion of hideous modern monstrosities, and instead focus on constructing an apartment building that celebrates the character of the area. I think a '70s-inspired box clad in old concert posters and faded signs would be quite fitting, with special corners provided in which the inebriated may urinate and break bottles, and tufts of weeds poking out from cracks in the concrete facade. Ensuring a consistent style is much more important than attempting to provide a contrast - as a rule, what's already there is always better than new, so at the very least we should be trying to make all these horrendous new impositions slightly less offensive by properly blending them into the urine-soaked, smog-caked, rubbish-covered, homeless-clad, thirty-lane West Terrace environment. And if we make it exactly the same height as everything else, it will allow all the wonderful old car dealerships and headstone manufacturers nearby to stand out even more! Sameness and uniformity are so marvellously distinctive.

Honestly, sometimes it's impossible to get through to you people and your ignorance of heritage issues.

Now thats the sort of shite the council should reject, as if the CBD needs a CAR Wash...
At least if it does go ahead it will be easily demolished when something better comes along.

Another car wash??? What! No need for it. There is one at the BP just a bit further up the street. There are at least 2 vacant car washes within several 100m of each other on Port Road near Findon.
I agree, the council should jump onto this one right away

Exactly. I think we are being too hard on the owners of the site. I think they would have wanted to have the office block go ahead, but unfortunately with the tough lending conditions it was not to be. At least with a car wash, the owners can generate some income, whilst at the same time keeping the site available for future redevelopment. Indeed, I would have been much more dissapointed if the application had been for a 2 level office showroom.

Don't think of it as a car wash, think of it as a spa for cars. Ahhh, luxury.
