Pretty much, its where internal courtyard is, that has been there since the Station was built, just closed to public
But yeah if you’re really curious look on Google maps, it’s the large hole in the middle of the southern side of the station.

Picking up on an old thread...
Went to an information session with the CEO (Nigel Morrison) of SkyCity Group a couple of weeks ago.
One of the more surprising little bits of information was that part of the SkyCity Adelaide strategic plan is to build a purpose built complex that will cater to the needs of a future casino operation in Adelaide.
This would mean casino, restaurants, hotel and entertainment pretty much similar to what is on offer in Auckland (of course without the tower).
He said that the organisation could not afford to stay in the railway station building as they could not expand to what they want.
So... where will they go?
What will the railway station building be converted to then? (Hopefully Adelaide's version of the QVB).
Of course we are talking strategic so probably a minimum 10 years away but I thought you guys would be interested none the less.

A purposed built complex, does that mean a brand new purpose built complex? or converting a building into a purpose built complex?
I can see where they are coming from, certainly Skycity is a bit limited in space area but the current location is great, and as long as their intention is to move to a new location in the central of CBD, I would be interested to know.
Lets just hope they don't re-locate to Westlakes
Grenfell St would be a great location though

Interesting, especially what the future of the Adelaide Station will be.

I hear the preferred site is where a hospital is meant to go.

It wasn't a debate, it's what i've heard. And an option for the railway station is a boutique hotel. Just don't ask me where i've heard it.
But i'm guessing to quite a few people who're on this forum, this isn't really news to them.

Yet more evidence that the hospital is to be scrapped! There is no way that they would build a soccer stadium and a casino in the same precinct as a hospital.
Maybe a revitalization of that Torrens hotel/casino plan that was mooted some years back - and then revived, but died again.

Why do they want to move? do they need more room to cram more pokie machines in? calling that place a casino is an embarrasment to proper casinos

a hospital is exactly the thing that needs to be near the casino
have you been there lately?

You answered your own question there Cruise.
SkyCity wants to be more than just a casino and a couple of attached restaurants.
There is no room to expand to what the casino wants.
There is no room for a hotel.
And this is why a purpose-built building is in SkyCity's strategic plan.

That is certainly interesting news.
I'm not sure there's a big enough suitable site anywhere in the CBD for this, but then again perhaps if they act fast they could secure part of the current Clipsal site before it is all subdivided. In some ways that location would perhaps not be absolutely ideal, in that it's not all that prominent, but if the casino itself was good enough then people would go to it anyway regardless of where it is. Take Jupiters casino as an example. It's nowhere near Brisbane CBD and it's not even in the centre of Surfers Paradise. However it's still fine where it is because people travel there specifically to go to Jupiters. It also helps that it is right next to a major shopping centre.
It obviously can't go where the hospital is going because that site is already taken.
I think the current casino is quite good, but there obviously are limits to how much they can expand. I think it would be fantastic to have a new purpose built complex with similar facilities to some of the interstate casinos (hotel, cinemas, shops etc). Now that would be something to finally put Adelaide on the tourist map!
The sooner it can happen the better as far as I'm concerned. As for the old station building, I'm sure there are numerous possible uses, but to make it Adelaides equivelent of the QVB is probably the one I'd prefer.

The casino ia a massive magnet of people into the CBD. For example the only reason you see people around North Terrace at night is due to the casino. Shifting it to the suburbs would only serve to create a giant black hole that the CBD would take years to recover from.
I am all for shifting the casino, but please leave it in the CBD!
