A yellow tower crane has been erected at the (I'm assuming) 7 level South Terrace apartment complex.
8 cranes total for the CBD now.

Edit: Never mind, I just answered my own question.
It's 111 South Terrace - 9 levels.

If it's a self erector, then, no, that does not count at all.
Back to seven real cranes.

Now that spring has sprung, I'm sure we'll see quite a number of cranes 'springing' upon our skyline in the next 6 weeks or so.
Rowlands Place (1) Convention Centre (2) Rundle Place (4) RAH (8) Light Sq (1) - 16 cranes on top of current 7? Globe would come down soon.
20+ by years end?

20 is very optimistic shuz. It's more likely we will have 10 or 11 by the end of this year, and even that is pretty impressive for Adelaide. RAH will only have 6 and they probably wont be erected until SAHMRI is finished. Rundle Place will only have 2 or 3. Convention Centre probably wont start serious construction until late next year.
By the end of the year we could have:
City Central - 2
Uno Apts - 1
SAHMRI - 2
Adelaide Uni - 1
Uni SA - 1 if it gets going this year.
Rowlands Pl - 1
Light Sq - 1 maybe
Cnr of Franklin and Young St - 1
Rundle Place - 3
Something between 9 or 11 cranes by the end of the year is a bit more realistic.

The serious construction for the RAH probably wont start until early/mid next year. Though don't quote me on that

In recent times, the record is 9, which was set in 2008.
However, I am unsure whether this is our all time record, as I can't remember the 80s and wasn't alive in the 70s.

I'm led to believe that the all-time record is 9, achieved in 2008.
The boom of the mid-late 80's saw 8 cranes at most; ASER (Hyatt, Riverside) Roma Mitchell, State Bank, MTAA, etc. These buidlings were under construction circa 1985-1988 and completed 1987/1988.
This recent boom will surpass the record, entering double digits for first time.

Having a look at some old photos of the city, I think we may have reached double digits in 1989.
For example there are 4 cranes visible in this photo looking northwest from the corner of Pulteney and Flinders Streets.
Having looked at other photos, at this time there were 2 cranes building the Exhibition Building, 2 building the Optus centre, 1 building the Hindley Parkroyal and 1 building the Henry Waymouth Centre. There were probably even more.
