Cladding? Or the orange paint previously mentioned?

Wow, 1958? Nice find. Is it still standing? The likeness is uncanny, which does give an uncomfortable feeling of trying to catch up with 50 years ago.

I have bought a really good book by Jennifer Taylor called 'Tall Buildings: Australian Business Going Up (1945-1970)'. For skyscraper nerds, it is an awesome book, which is very insightful.
There is a tendency to suggest that the Gallery Building is 'catching up' but from reading the book, it seems that architectural styles seem to come and go. For example, the glass box curtain wall buildings such as our MLC Building of 1957 went out of fashion in the early 1960s, and were replaced by the more 'solid looking' concrete faced building fashionable from the 60's and 70's. Judging from the latest styles, it appears that the glass box is back in fashion.
And yes, thankfully that building is still standing.

Oh, certainly. Walter Gropius was knocking this stuff out back in the 1910-20s:

Those Walter Gropius designs are great - thanks for that Prince.
Quick pic from last week, not sure about this one but not dismissing it entirely just yet either. Pretty sure though I wouldn't be a big fan of another 19 storey clone sitting next to it either way, much less five of them

I don't mind it at all - 5 would be good - obviously a diffferent effect to any other place in Adelaide. Any pics anyone of other elevations to get a better idea?

My general feeling is that the original renders (with all the colourful squares) rarely 'work' in reality and unfortunately this development (including the Morphett St 7 storey block whose name escapes me for the second) haven't really hit their intended mark. Everything is relative though and I don't think it's bad, just not spectacular.
I would be quite happy to at least see a 2nd of the towers built (if not 5!) assuming it would be next to the current one, as there is an awful lot of 'wasteland' around that part of the city and I have a feeling two towers would more or less block the least attractive views of each tower because they would be only visible to people living in them rather than those of us just viewing them.
Having said that, they do look a bit heavy. Not that Gold Coast architecture translates perfectly to Adelaide but something a bit lighter in appearance, like say Artique on the Gold Coast, would have been a nicer and more modern look.

Must've used a Soviet Mil Mi-26 to pick that thing up from Sovet Russia and plonk it down here. In Russia we make building. You like building! WE BUILD FIVE!

I dont mind this at all. I love 60's commie blocks. I wish there were some real ones in Adelaide. Even Wellington had a couple when I went there. They look cool and make a city feel like a city.
There have been more colourful cladding put up for this. It noticed a torquoise colour on the other side
