Finally, adelaide has made it.

There won't be any 'backwater' comments now we have the same snacks as the eastern states.

Let the ACC squash whatever they want, it doesn't matter anymore... we have Krispy Kreme!

I know it is comments like that which make Adealide a backwater.

seriously we are a international city because we have some donuts - which are well over rated in the first place.

KK are overrated
JamesXander wrote:lol at Mr shahin. We will have KK now our lives are complete! For mine I would rather a competitive service station market in adelaide, instead of the monopoly which we now have. How the takeover of all the Mobil sites this year was approved ill never know?
Agreed.

What's with donut chains and the 'double initials' thing? KK, DD, GG... Makes no sense.

I miss the starbucks that used to be where hype is now.

Shops in Adelaide city set to open all but two public holidays

by: State Editor Greg Kelton From: AdelaideNow November 07, 2011 3:05PM

SHOPS in the city will be able to open for all but two public holidays and the morning of Anzac Day under new changes announced by the State Government.

The move, which will not take effect until legislation has been passed early next year, is aimed at revitalising the city centre.

However, in what is the biggest change in state shopping hours for decades, shops in the suburbs will remain closed on public holidays.

The deal has been negotiated over 12 months between Business SA and the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association.

Business SA chief executive Peter Vaughan has described the move as the "best free kick for retailers in the CBD that has ever been delivered".

Premier Jay Weatherill said the changes would allow customers to shop in the city on most public holidays and would inject more life into the central business district of Adelaide.

"These reforms will provide a new set of social norms for Adelaide while acknowledging some things must be kept sacred, protecting Christmas Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day," Mr Weatherill said.

"They will provide a revitalised CBD where shops can open on all other public holidays but will respect the needs of small business and workers in suburbs and towns.

"The vibrancy of our capital city is critical to the competitiveness of our State but we want to retain the things people love most about SA."

Mr Weatherill said the changes also compensated those workers who were working while others were enjoying themselves over Christmas and New Year.

"The rest of us may have to pay little more for a meal or a drink at Christmas or the New Year but I think that is fair," he said.

"This is a good example of how issues can be resolved by the significant players seeking common ground."

New laws will allow stores of any size located in the Central Shopping District to open from 11am to 5pm on New Year's Day, Adelaide Cup Day, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Proclamation Day, Queen's Birthday and Labour Day and after midday on Anzac Day.

The Government proposes to amend the Holidays Act to create part public holidays on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve from 5pm until midnight.

The proposed arrangement will ensure

employees required to work after 5pm on these evenings will receive appropriate penalty rates of pay and have the reasonable right to refuse the shift under the national employment standards.

Mr Weatherill said providing retailers in the city an opportunity to open an extra 10 days a year would boost tourism, give shoppers greater flexibility and allow retail workers to earn extra wages.

SDA secretary Peter Malinauskas said it was a genuine and productive compromise between the union and business which delivered a major benefit for his members while allowing additional trade in the CBD.

He said those workers who chose to work after 5pm on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve would receive public holiday penalty rates of up 250 per cent.

Hooray for common sense!

While more should be done, any news is good news regarding trading hours in Adelaide. So kudus to our new State Premier :)

False. Sunday and late night trading is much bigger, not to mention many SA regional towns already trade on public holidays.

Yeah, I was surprised about this as well. I think they saw the change was happening anyway and got in early to cement in double time (or double time and a half for Sundays) for people working those days (unless you're on salary... which a lot are now...)

Funny you say that. There is a legal battle on at the moment as its a different Colette yet collette d thinks she owns the name.

There is one at Marion too. Quite nice stores.
