Emperor is still a vacant block, though site works shouldn't be too far away.
Thanks (to Norman too). That would explain the blank concrete wall on the eastern side of the site. I'll have a closer look next time I'm out there.
Cheers for clearing that up, thanks for the photos

Crawf, how do you know that site works are not far away ?
It would be a good development for the northern suburbs if it does go ahead.

So will they be demolishing the current bunch of shops that are there or will they retro-fit the current building(s)?

Source?
This is a very average concept. For example.. the views from some of the apartments will be blocked off by the existing archway, the road entrance will be blocked off by a large concrete wall (directly facing the lake) and the biggest issue off all… where are people going to park?. It looks like half the carpark will be swallowed up by this building, becoming a nightmare for existing local businesses and lure shoppers away from Mawson Lakes.
And, like most things in Mawson Lakes, those apartments look pretty stock standard.
It would be better to just demolish the entire block and start again. OR the vacant block at 18-24 Lights Common would be perfect for Aldi. No doubt there is demand for more supermarkets in the area, though it needs a better location and design.

It looks like behind the building.

From what I can gather this is going to take up some of the carpark, no existing shops are to be demolished. It's currently on the public notifications for the DAC.

Knowing that part of Mawson Lakes quite well, those renders are very confusing. Just cannot get my head around how they all fit together. Unless (and even if) you demolish the row of cafes and restaurants there, Aldi would take up almost that entire car park.

INDEPENDENT living units for the elderly would feature in a building that would be the tallest in Adelaide’s north.
EBM Family Medical Practice’s Dr Senthil Govindasamy has lodged the application for a pair of towers for a vacant block of land next to his business on Elder Smith Rd, Mawson Lakes.
If approved, the towers would stand about 18 storeys high and feature about 150 apartments.
Plans include a hairdresser, podiatrist, dentist and cafe on the bottom floor, while the independent living quarters would feature around-the-clock access to medical staff, a swimming pool, library, supermarket and fitness centre.
He said the towers would also feature nutrition services, a tenpin bowling alley and penthouse meeting rooms.

This whilst ambitious would stick out like a sore thumb. I am way pro high rise developments but in this area it just seems TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE. Once the suburb has already been filed with townhouses where the 4-5 storey buildings should have been and 3-5 storey buildings were the 15-30 storey buildings should have been.
Recall proposals to make Mawson Lakes, Adelaide's second CBD. Its a bit late for that. And we seem to be make this same mistake again and again even though there is talk of TOD's. Tonsley Park comes to mind rather than raising the site and starting from scratch and building a proper TOD we are left with a TAFE college that has hardly any students and will be a hodge-podge of warehouses, townhouses and a few poorly designed buildings. Should be called Tonsley "YUK" Park.

Not to mention poorly designed planned railway stations as part of these so called TOD's have any of these developments/politicians been to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne in Australia let alone London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Milan etc.

Went past today and saw workmen and pilling equipment on site. Safe to say
site works have commenced.
The adjacent retail/residential development is also progressing well.
