As a result of the harlf yearly results announcment by Qantas today, Q Catering at Adelaide AIrport will be closed. This will happen in advance of their building lease expiry date of March 2013.
In addition to the above, route and aircraft changes will lead to the token Qantas Singapore-Adelaide-Sydney (QF81/82) services having their days of operation through Adelaide changed. The service will now move from Wed/Fri/Sun to Tue/Thu/Sat. This change is expected to take place on May 6th.

Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
A notification re night works on the main runway.
Adelaide Airport Runway Closure
Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL) is to undertake urgent and necessary safety maintenance works in the removal of rubber from runway 05/23 for the period 27 Feb 2012 to and including 1 March 2012.
The nature of the works is such that we need to undertake them at night during the curfew (11.00pm to 06.00 am). However, during these times there are many approved operations that occur, including medical emergency, and small freight aircraft.
In normal operations, these curfew approved movements operate on the main runway 05/23 with approaches and departures occurring over the sea, where operationally safe to do so. However, for the period of the works on the main runway, these movement will need to operate on our cross runway (Runway 12/30).
This project is essential safety works and is done on a periodical basis to ensure adequate cohesion for landing aircraft.

Hmmm... "see-through telescopes" hey? My opaque ones aren't that good I might try one of these...Vee wrote:Interesting idea from Zurich airport - an infographically enhanced experience / observation deck.
Nice idea. Wonder how much messing about was needed to get the data out of ATC into something spatially aware like that.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.
Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
Recently went to Amsterdam airport which has a similar observation deck. Its great, mostly kids (big and small) and the planes are that close the pilots wave to you as they are getting pushed back from the gate. They also have an actual cockpit cut off an aircraft up there that you can climb into and push all the buttons. Would be a awsome addition to the terminal.

Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
Tiger keen to return to Adelaide, one day..
TIGER Airways is keen to resume flights to Adelaide but the low-cost carrier cannot confirm if or when it will.
Melbourne-based Tiger's gradual return to become a significant domestic airline took a major step yesterday when it announced it would establish a second Australian base in Sydney from July 1.
Tiger was grounded mid last year by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and closed its then second base, in Adelaide. It resumed restricted flying in August, gradually expanding as CASA restrictions have been progressively lifted.
It presently flies from Melbourne to Cairns, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Perth.
Any resumption to Adelaide might not be until August, when Tiger will receive another aircraft for use in Australia.
The airline has confirmed in-depth talks were being held about a return through Adelaide.

Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
Thanks Ben.
This is a RAAF Airbus A330-200 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport). This aircraft was the first of type to visit Adelaide and the RAAF have 5 in service. The aircraft is used for mid air re-fuelling of fighter jets and also can carry a mix of military passengers and freight. The RAAF was the launch customer for this heavily modified version of the A332 as it required a replacement for the ageing and increasingly expensive to maintain Boeing 707 fleet.

nearmap (Feb 22) gives a good overall perspective of the project.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Qantas set to prime Adelaide flight on bio-fuel
ADELAIDE will be the destination for Australia's first commercial biofuel flight when Qantas powers one of its Airbus jets with cooking oil next month.
Passenger tickets are on sale for the Friday the 13th flight from Sydney, which will use a 50 per cent mix of converted cooking oil in one of the two engines of its twin-aisle Airbus A330s.
The aircraft - which can take about 300 passengers - will return to Sydney that afternoon, with Qantas engineers monitoring the engine running on standard avgas against the the biofuel, which will be specially imported from the US.
Use of the imported cooking oil mixture, which powered a Lufthansa aircraft that flew a domestic German passenger route for six months, is expected to cost Qantas more than conventional fuel.
The airline sees an important step to develop a viable alternative to conventional jetfuel, with prices soaring to above $120 a barrel.

Qantas head of environment John Valastro said until a biofuel was produced " at a competitive price, the industry will not be able to realise its true benefits".
"No single player can make this happen. It needs support from government, private sector investment, access to infrastructure and market demand," he said.
Qantas had no problems with the flight being on Friday 13th.

From December 2012 Singapore Airlines will be flying twice daily from Adelaide to Singapore direct.
At this stage it is unknown what aircraft type(s) will be used.

Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
Ok, on a permanent basis? This summer they used a slightly lousy old 777 for the additional early flight.
Re: Adelaide Airport & Airline News
I believe that it may be seasonal but this time around its a double daily service (as apposed to a thrice weekly extra service). I'm guessing the 777-200ERs will be in use by Scoot then, so i asume it will be 2 x A330.Splashmo wrote:Ok, on a permanent basis?
