Congratulations Councillor.
Is there any truth to the article in today's newspaper that you support the construction of a landmark building twice the height of Westpac House?

He did put it to us in the 'Adelaide City Development Plan Review Aug 2008' that he either supported/wanted to investigate the possibility for a 70 storey tower in Adelaide.

Thanks for that, exciting times!
Apologies for not posting of late, it has been a busy time with much happening personally and professionally.
I have resigned from the City of Playford – after nearly 6 years I felt it time to move closer to home and follow my dream as a consulting futurist. I plan to begin in 2009 after a much needed break – it has been a huge 12 months of very long hours.
You will find me at the aquatic centre or climbing Mount Lofty over the next few weeks as the last year has not been conducive to being fit - death by cheese platter! I am also preparing for an addition to the family – my wife Emily is pregnant and due April.
Regarding my recent appointment, below is a copy of the media release.
Councillor Stephen Yarwood elected as Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide.
(or as I like to put it - "there's a new Deputy in Town"!)
“I will be a strong advocate for both the elected Council and administration – to send the message Council is full of fresh faces and ideas from diverse professional, community and business backgrounds working well as a team in the best interests of all South Australians.”
Stephen has resigned from the City of Playford to concentrate on his role as Councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor and will be starting his own “Sustainable Futures” consultancy in 2009 based on strategic planning and futures thinking.
A resident adjacent the Central Market, Stephen is passionate about Adelaide’s future; he believes in informed decision making to support both business and the community. He stands for:
• Strong support for population growth and development within the CBD;
• Leadership on climate change and the water crisis;
• Commitment to major projects, especially Victoria Square;
• Cleaner and greener streets; and
• Representation for all South Australians – not just city residents and businesses.
Since being elected a year ago Stephen has been active on many fronts, with achievements including:
• Calling for Victoria Square re-development;
• Pushing Council’s extensive response to climate change;
• Supporting Council in finding savings in power costs;
• Calling for a major review of off & on street car parking;
• Proposing Solar Panels for the Central Market via Federal Funding;
• Calling for mandatory Green Buildings;
• Providing the first ever ACC apology to the Stolen Generations; and
• Community & business relationship building by keeping in contact with his constituents.
Stephen has also been appointed to:
• The LGA State/Local Government Climate Change Sector Agreement Steering Committee;
• The Capital City Committee;
• The Adelaide Convention & Tourism Authority Board;
• The Public Art Roundtable; and
• The Adelaide High School Governing Council.
Stephen has a Bachelor of Arts in Planning, Graduate Diplomas in Regional & Urban Planning and Environmental Studies and is currently a Masters of Business Administration student at the University of Adelaide.

A very generous applause is in order!
Well done Stephen, good to know that someone like you who drives change rather than voice change is at the helm of the Lord Mayor role.

Well done Clr Yarwood!
You are a man after the very 'heart' of this site - no room for negativity, a love for our city and a keen interest in all development and the news thereof coupled with involvemen if possible. Somewhat visionary to boot.
I'm sure you will get significant support from many of us. Let's hope big changes are ahead - no doubt fuelled by the resources, defence and immigration.
'The deputy IS in town'.

Re: [] News: Adelaide City Council
As you know I am a keen internet user – I am pursuing administration to try and be the first councillor to use an “e book” and reduce the massive waste of paper that piles up every day in the office!
I also use Facebook and have started a page to gain support, spread the word and access my constituents and people of South Australia in more practical ways.

Please drop past, become a fan and spread the word – our generation has the power of digital networks and there s much to be gained from their use!
Cheers

Interesting comment – happy for you to offer more.
David P and I are the only ones that use the internet – I think if we do want to be seen as accessible and not just focused on the interests of those that voted us in it is a good way to reach more people.
Networks are powerful things!
