The tunnel under the parklands is a waste of money and should be redirected at other PT projects or spent elsewhere where it is needed immediately. I have never been a fan of the O-Bahn. The accident yesterday is one reason. If it was on rail they would've had signals and other safety measures...not to mention the log jam of buses. It should be converted to light rail. My rant may come too late and if they go ahead with the tunnel I hope it will be converted to accept trams in future. However I would've preferred the trams to run along North Terrace to join up with the line to the Entertainment Centre and Glenelg. A logical extension from the Northeast to the Southwest and running along our cultural boulevard. Anyway, politicians don't have vision or think logically. All they are interested in is throwing away money for a handful of votes!

1. This has only been the third accident on the line since it opened.
2. There was no log jam, the other buses used the local road network to bypass the accident.

what about all the cars that find their way onto the tracks? those are accidents and end up bringing the city's only well used rapid transit line to a standstill, and they happen fairly regularly.Norman wrote:To be fair...

What causes the shutdowns from heat, track, signalling, rolling stock, and how often? A closure of a section of the OBahn does not bring it to a standstill. Unlike the closure of a train line, the same vehicles route around the problem on street. Sure this results in delays, but what happens when a train line is closed? And to add it is highly likely the accident the other day was driver error. Well that's a big if, has that ever happened before? The lack of trees alongside the track in the video goes to show just how wide the corridor is/was for the Modbury Freeway, perhaps the concept could still see the light of day?monotonehell wrote:Not much. If or when the relevant authorities tell people what happened in the crash we can see wether this was actually a problem with the bus or driver error.monotonehell wrote:Interesting point.
