News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Re: New Retail in the CBD
Shuz, i was asked by a developer a few months ago if i knew anything about Apple being opened at that site. Apparently he had heard from someone at the council.
Could they be making an exception for the mall? Maybe there's something to the story.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
If they did they'd piss off all their dealers locally; The Apple reseller, not to mention DJ's, Myer, DSE, JB, Harvey Norman, - just about everyone in the Mall sells Apple.
In fact, I'm starting to think Ben meant Con the Fruiterer.

Judging by the signage bracket having three attachments on it, I'd say you're on the money!Pants wrote:GAP is my guess.
New Retail in the CBD
Nicely spotted. Also with manikins and wall posters on the render would suggest a clothing outlet.

Is it 15-17 Rundle Mall? If so, I have this feeling it'll be an Apple Store. There's been some consolidation of sites there, and now a 3 story development. We know they're looking for a large frontage and this is the ideal site.
I'm not one to speculate, but the pieces fit together...
Thoughts? Any chance of getting a hold of some plans?
Re: New Retail in the CBD
And a new shop in the old Post Office at Glenelg, where they'll be paying a billion dollars rent.monotonehell wrote:If they did they'd piss off all their dealers locally; The Apple reseller, not to mention DJ's, Myer, DSE, JB, Harvey Norman, - just about everyone in the Mall sells Apple.
Re: New Retail in the CBD
A location like where Hugo Boss and Bang and Olufson would be a much more suitable location, nice modern glass 'box' standalone buildings, and is obviously what Apple would prefer. Plus as mentioned theres so many apple resellers in the mall , an Apple store would be better in another area. It'll happen I'm sure.. eventually.
Re: New Retail in the CBD
If your source was the leasing agent, then they should know Apple's requirements are very specific - they're not @rseholes, they just know what they want and don't see a need to deviate. If it was someone within BV, then reputation suggests that they would both have been as stubborn and arrogant as each other. Come to think of it, it would have been a great conversation to watch.[Shuz] wrote:RE: Former Ed Harry's is definetly not an Apple as they demand that they have a minimum 15m wide frontage, amongst many other specifics. I know of someone who works in the industry who tried to get them to establish a store at Burnside Vilage and am told that they are - quote - "Absolute f***ing arseholes to deal with".
As far as demanding 15m minimum, they will vary if compelled to do so. I'm sure it was just a case of the retail case just not being strong enough or the Owner not wanting to accommodate their needs. Have a look at this for plenty of examples of alternate styles ( http://www.bcj.com/public/projects/category/2.html ). A little off-topic, sorry.
Re Adelaide, Apple has already secured an alternative site in the mall which I have alluded to in previous posts on SA. Won't open for a while but they're a patient bunch when it comes to the right location - they've been in the market for nearly 8 years in the Melbourne CBD and still have not committed to a 'Significant Store' space - meanwhile there are now 4 in the 'burbs.
Re: New Retail in the CBD
No dice. There's a For Lease sign on the front window. Strange to have built it without securing a tenant.Pikey wrote:Judging by the signage bracket having three attachments on it, I'd say you're on the money!Pants wrote:GAP is my guess.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
Do Nespresso run cafes, or is it a retail shop for their coffee machines and pods?
Re: New Retail in the CBD
My Mother-in-law is going to wet herself when she finds this out (apologies for the mental image).
@Nathan - not sure about the Adelaide one, but Collins Street Melbourne has a full showroom of pods and machines with lots of samples handed out, but no cafe as such.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
I would say it's just a showroom but you can get free "sample" coffees anytime.
i look forward to not having to order my pods off the net
