Hmmmm...

unlikely.

If BE were the only bidder it would likely have been contracted via a nominated tender (sole source) procurement arrangement so they would not need to advertise - they would have preferred sub-contractors.

For a $100m landmark building, there will be a lot of interest from construction firms. With a slowdown in the economy and a meltdown in the financial market, the certainty of future major work has diminished markedly in the last 3 mnths. All the big firms will be looking for forward orders to carry them through the next 12-24 months.

I personally hope that BE get the work - a good SA company that has a fine reputation for construction quality and meeting schedules.

But this will certainly not be a one-horse race.

Any renderings of the eastern facade, the one that has no windows and balconies? I would like to see what has been done to make it look not "so" bare.

Cheers

Hang on chaps.

The tender for the construction only closed this week.

I hope that it goes ahead but am also apprehensive. However, the building went out for public tender so that's a positive sign. Let's give it a couple of weeks before starting to worry.

agree with you there - nobody goes single source in a market that is shaping up to be much more competitive in the not too distant future. It would be nice for Built Environs to win the job, no doubt MPX, Bauldies, H&Y and friends will all have a bight of the cherry

Would have if this was getting built anytime soon. But it won't start before Feb 09 at the earliest from what i've been told, if it even goes ahead at all.

Not bad for a project originally proposed in 2003.

Am I correct in thinking a lot of student accommodation is in this one? If so,it's future is assured with the big increase in CBD student population expected forv 2009. However, Like everybody else, I am sick of the delays, vaguaries and conflicting messages.Anyone have any news at all about this development?

Yeh i'm not very optimistic on this one. This proposal was first talked about in 2002 and it's 2009 in 2 weeks.... It probably will happen but when is anybody's guess.
