Here's some exciting news. A 'Baulderstone' green crane base is being installed today at the convention centre site, on the southern side of the train tracks next to North Terrace. Soon to be 12!

Just the one going in today. The base is being installed very close to the Morphett St bridge which would allow a second one on the southern side of the tracks if necessary.

Judging by the base, I'd say it will be a electronic hammerhead crane, so I'm suggesting we'll have one, but I've been wrong in the past.
The Western CBD will be a wash with cranes this year. Six at the RAH site, one or two at the Convention Centre site, the Uni expansion, Adelaide Oval with four. It will be nothing like anyone who has lived here has ever seen.

didnt they do the 2001 convention centre with just 1 crane? they could probably do this part with one as it's a bit smaller

You're right, they did do it with one crane back in 2001. The only reason that I suspect there may be two, is not because the site is small, but rather, because the site is complex. It's a bit hard to navigate equipment around with the train tracks in the way, Morphett Street Bridge and North Terrace don't intersect, so trucks can't easily move equipment from Festival Drive to North Terrace across the site without doing a loop and U-turns through Hindley Street and one of the back streets. And they couldn't realistically close off half of Morphett Street bridge to store equipment and parts, not because of traffic issues, but I think the bridge can only bear so much load without risk of structural damage.

A fair guess that the convention center crane will be erected this weekend. The site has been cleared of equipment and a large Samaras portable crane is on site.
Might be 12 cranes after this weekend.

Traffic restrictions on North Terrace
Over the weekend of February 4 and 5 traffic travelling east towards the city will be restricted to one lane on North Terrace (between the Morphett Street Bridge and the Convention Centre) whilst a tower crane is erected for the site.
Flag controllers will be present on both sides of North Terrace to control traffic movements as necessary throughout the weekend.
Pedestrians will be also be diverted to the opposite side of North Terrace for this period.
Motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes to avoid delays.

Restrictions galore on North Terrace today, the tower crane is currently in the process of being erected and more work is happening at the EDS building.
Even coming into town this morning along Port Road, I felt a sense of State Pride seeing a growing number of cranes filling our city skyline.

i wonder how many of the proposed upcoming developments approved will seek a change to building heights if this new plan comes into effect shortly, will be interesting to see.
