Whilst the current focus beyond this, Darlington and T2T is likely the section of South Road between Cross Road and Tonsley, I'd actually favour the section from Torrens to James Congdon Drive simply because it will allow for quick CBD access to the motorway instead of traffic having to trawl through a four lane section of South Road or Port Road simply to get to the motorway.Eurostar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 2:06 pmOnce the Northern Connector and Torrens to Torrens is open I can see a lot of people from the city travelling via this corridor to get to the Salisbury West suburbs rather than Churchill, Prospect or Main North Roads. And at least if there is accident on Salisbury Highway drivers can be diverted
I imagine that the construction techniques will be sufficiently different that the lead contractors and main subcontractors would be different for the elevated roadway south of Cross Road and for the cut-and-cover tunnels at SDBD and HBR, so it is possible that (if budget could be found), two or even three segments could be worked simultaneously, the same as now.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:33 amWhilst the current focus beyond this, Darlington and T2T is likely the section of South Road between Cross Road and Tonsley, I'd actually favour the section from Torrens to James Congdon Drive simply because it will allow for quick CBD access to the motorway instead of traffic having to trawl through a four lane section of South Road or Port Road simply to get to the motorway.Eurostar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 2:06 pmOnce the Northern Connector and Torrens to Torrens is open I can see a lot of people from the city travelling via this corridor to get to the Salisbury West suburbs rather than Churchill, Prospect or Main North Roads. Yes, it would have been ideal, but impossible now that the Oaklands project has started.SBD wrote:Ideally, if the Seaford railway has to be stopped for significant work at Oaklands, someone could find and promote plans for Emerson and do work on them both at the same time.
Once again, the North/South motorway is not designed for ease of access to or from the CBD. Any effort to facilitate faster vehicle access to the CBD will be detrimental to both the motorway, and the CBD itself.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:33 amWhilst the current focus beyond this, Darlington and T2T is likely the section of South Road between Cross Road and Tonsley, I'd actually favour the section from Torrens to James Congdon Drive simply because it will allow for quick CBD access to the motorway instead of traffic having to trawl through a four lane section of South Road or Port Road simply to get to the motorway.Eurostar wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 2:06 pmOnce the Northern Connector and Torrens to Torrens is open I can see a lot of people from the city travelling via this corridor to get to the Salisbury West suburbs rather than Churchill, Prospect or Main North Roads. that's what the planners want, but it's not what will happen when it's completed... Developers around Virginia/Two Wells are using close proximity to the NExy as a selling pointclaybro wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 5:44 pmOnce again, the North/South motorway is not designed for ease of access to or from the CBD. Yes, but it's the middle of 2018 and the embankment is nowhere near finished. If the embankment has to settle for a year then a late 2019 opening is increasingly unlikely.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 6:48 pmThe plan was always to build the embankment then let it settle for a year - the concrete won't take long to do.
So is there a real delay, or did Adelaide Brighton just get set up earlier/quicker than expected?mawsonguy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 7:57 amYes, but it's the middle of 2018 and the embankment is nowhere near finished. Whoops.. DPTI really need to get better media consultantsmawsonguy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 4:55 pmA longer version of the video was originally posted on Vimeo on 20 April 2018 so the above video is a bit out of date. It's a pity that the contractor for the southern half of the connector hasn't posted drone footage of anything other than the southern interchange.
