NBN Co announces upgrades for remaining homes and businesses on Fibre to the Node.
13 January 2025

NBN Co will provide new upgrade paths for the remaining homes and businesses across Australia on the Fibre to the Node network, enabled through an investment with the Australian Government.
The investment is expected to benefit around 622,000 homes and businesses, with more than 95 per cent of premises having the option to upgrade to nbn® full fibre via nbn Fibre to the Premises.
nbn full fibre is faster and more reliable than Fibre to the Node and enables access to nbn's fastest upload and download speeds.

So over this NBN.
Just guarantee everyone can get the upgrade without any possibility of incurred costs already.

Unfortunately probably not viable, since voters supported Tony “[We] are absolutely confident that 25 megs is going to be enough, more than enough, for the average household.” Abbott and so we ended up with a piecemeal network that costs a lot more to upgrade piecemeal than just doing it right the first time.

Having everyone able to access the NBN in the same manner can't be a bad thing , surely

Yeah, 50 is the new 25 with regards to speeds needed for reliable internet. In a household of 3 or 4 people there could easily be 10 or more devices connected at any one time (not unusual for just myself to have 6 or 7 at one time), throw in 4k streaming which is becoming more common and an online gamer and you're pushing the limits of 50mbps. 25 really only becomes suitable for 1 or 2 person households.

So apparently HFC users aren't part of this.

HFC users can already get gigabit speeds.

Satellite, fixed wireless and fttc users, in that order, are the ones that NBN next needs to focus on.

Yeah that's fair enough, I was more sad that when it rains heavily or it's too windy my internet will still be dodgy

That sounds no good.
Have you had NBN out to fix that fault?
My HFC is perfectly fine with rain or wind, at least now. Several years ago it took about 5 attempts for NBN to fix a similar sounding dropout issue.

Fttp drops out also when there is a fault.

Yeah it's an NBN issue, they haven't worked it out yet.

To be fair my ISP has been fine and have tried numerous times and have reduced the incidence down significantly.

Was hoping potential upgrades could fix it. Potentially maintenance eventually will.

Every time this thread is bumped it's fun to go back and see old posts like this, where people like @claybro were proven within just a few years to be totally and utterly wrong, and now have ended up costing us all a lot to fix the half assed mess their attitudes made of the network.

Uh what you're forgetting is that in small businesses or any business, slow internet may may be the cause of frustration. That will reduce productivity. So yes, people care. It depends on who you ask on the street as well. I'm still shocked you choose to ignore all the information provided to you.
Information provided by which post? I get my information from speaking with people in the telecommunications industry and from the internet like everyone else. Some of the information parroted here is directly copied from the NBN/ government sites and is therefore not trustworthy. As for people on the street, without fail everyone I have spoken to at work this week is concerned about 1. How quiet there companys are.2 How workers are being forced to take anual leave. 3. How much thier costs have increased (rent electricity etc.).... The broadband did not come up in converstion even once. So the previous post about some kind of Labour revival on the back of NBN is completely out of touch and just re-inforces the politicisation of the whole subject.

Not going to lie I thought it was crazy given the advancement in wireless internet.

Probably proven very wrong, but I guess these things happen
