[COM] Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval - Western Grandstand Construction Thr
all I can say is wow, that is an amazing amount of money to be paying and I would suggest for membership to an oval it would be one of the highest in the country.
heck my mates only pay circa $600 for MCG membership which gets him to everything (except concerts I think) I reckon if its a $1000 i'll just sign up on the waiting list of the 'G.

you'll be lucky to receive your membership before your too old to attend sporting events at the ground!
1K is pricey, but the survey was all to do with different combinations and prices according to the combos. it was extremely complicated with many, many different options and prices so it may not end up being anywhere near 1K, but i'd surely bet on the 700 or 800 dollar mark. they basically put their feelers out there to see what people would be willing to pay. anyhow, i dont want to take the thread too far off topic, perhaps this discussion is more suited to the redevelopment proposal?

yes I imagine it would be.
on the construction, I remember seeing the original design a few years ago, pre-AFL commitment.
It looked amazing I did question to the tunnels for players to run on/and off which i was told "was for the SANFL" however the smile that went with the comment had me thinking otherwise.
I think they have done a great job and look forward to sitting in the stands soon

If this is the exacts of their fees, we would be getting royally screwed if ours are anywhere near $1,000.
Nomination Fee (to join the waiting list): $66
Current Entrance Fee: $726
2009/10 Membership Fees:
50-Year member: $15
Full member: $555
Restricted member: $433
Various other rates apply for Full and Restricted members depend on the age and place of residence of the member. The place of residence of the member as at September 1 is applied to the following membership subscription season, even if they change during the season.
The above fees are inclusive of GST.
The entrance fee is payable in instalments as members move through various membership and age categories until the final payment of the full entrance fee (in the dollars of the day) upon election to Full adult membership.

As much as I am for this developement, how much of a free ride does cricket get in this country. MCG, SCG, GABBA.
Now perhaps AO. Im not against it, but wow.
BTW I think about 500-600 would be reasonable

I think they reward those who have been a member for over 50 years. It would be all the old fogies.
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval - Western Grandstand Construction Thr
that is a good question. Unquestionably Aussie Rules (AFL is a league NOT a Sport) underwrites the MCG, and in all likelihood the SANFL will end up bringing more to the AdOval than it would otherwise be able to without Footy. The Gabba really sh*ts me as that was money put aside for the Olympics football tournament. It paid for Hindmarsh, which is still the countries finest football-only stadium, but in Victoria the money went to the MCG and in QLD it went to the 'gabba Where is the legacy for football in those last two states??JamesXander wrote:As much as I am for this developement, how much of a free ride does cricket get in this country. What would I pay for AO membership after the AFC and PAFC play there in 2015 onwards, probably $700 max. With my AUFC membership costing $300 odd then my year of sport would be about $1k. I could rationalise that, but not much more.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

[COM] Re: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment - General Discussion Thread
Given the state of things at the moment, there is a way to go before there is anything to approve.
I was privileged (?) to attend the 'launch' or whatever it was. I listened carefully to the scripted speeches: 'cricket and football can be played at AO' (Ian McLachlan, SACA) is quite different from 'cricket and football will be played at AO'.
The visual presentation was very impressive (it should be - it's $5 million worth), but the facts were a bit thin. Neither Foley nor Rann were ablre to attend, even though one of the reasons for holding the PR session was that the function had been booked long ago for the supposed grand announcement of agreement.
Instead, we got an agreement to continue seeking an agreement. There were rumours around that SACA members (who will be voting on the development proceeding) were being offered a refund of part or all of the annual construction levy if they vote yes. If that's true it means that the vote will not be by secret ballot. I don't know the strength of any factions in SACA about the redevelopment so I don't know whether voters might be subject to pressure in an open vote.
I continued my enquiries about the state of drawings to date - whether they can be accurately costed. I was quite shocked to hear that the conceptual drawings hadn't changed much for some time. I would particularly like to see some good elevations of the new eastern stand.
Minister Conlon as good as suggested that a large multi-storey carpark be built near the oval and used to raise revenue outside fixture times.
At the same time, there seemed an idea of guaranteeing the casino huge passing post-match trade by routing sporting crowds past its door.
In fact, there were a lot of implications and suggestions, but still an annoying lack of new information of any kind - financial or drafted.
I was very surprised that another $5 million has been allocated to planning work. I really thought that more than the sketchy concept information would be available. Out of the first $5 million, Andrew Demetriou was paid $50,000 to get SACA and SANFL together at a table.
There was still no price, and rumours of a blowout of up to $200 million already.
Among many questions are the dropin pitches. Adelaide is presently renowned as a wicket, along with the Gabba, while the MCG is disliked mainly for its dropin pitches. No-one seemed to know how or where the pitches would be located for storage.
There are many unanswered questions and a start seems a long way off.
It's a strange way to manage a project. I would have cancelled this event in favour of a press release. For the expense, I can't see what was gained.

i thought it was an interesting read
we're all different i guess
some of us are interested in getting to the bottom of things and others are simply interested only in what they want to hear

I'm not savvy enough to start a blog. It wouldn't be very popular by all indications ...
I stick by the idea that in this project, because of the huge amount of public money involved, the 'how' is as important as the 'what'.

The 'business plan' for AO has the redeveloped facility generating a cash surplus of $32 million per year ... $87,000 per day.
