[COM] Rundle Lantern
[COM] Re: #U/C: Rundle Convergence
The testing last night went for about 3 hours or so. I arrived there at 8pm and saw it going and
I reckon they finished about 11pm. These times are only estimates though. I'd say the next likely
time for testing would be monday night but I wouldn't put money on it. I live in the hostel
right next door. If anyone wants to see more testing then they could give me there mobile no
and I'd be happy to SMS them if I see anymore testing.
To be honest, I did not think it was all that impressive last night. It looks better in the photos
than in real life I think. Probably when the whole thing is going it will look better.

It's 12:40 Friday night and they seem to have left it on.
12:42 they turned it off.

I SAW IT LAST NIGHT! I SAW IT! I SAW IT!
It looks like... the second best sex of all lighting displays.

I was in Rundle Street last night, and despite the fact that only about 10% of the panels were on, I was blown away by the magnitude of this project. Once complete it will be stunning and something we can all be proud about. Well done to the ACC for doing something with vision; they should try it more often!

Yeah, I haven't been as excited about something happening in this city for a while.
I was at The Richmond on Friday night, and couldn't stop looking over to see what was going on.
They were only illuminating a couple of random strips, but when the whole thing is lit up and functional, hopefully it's as spectacular as the renders suggest it will be.

If you look further back in the thread I think someone explained the bottom row is just to shield the next row up from interferring light and to hide the bottom led emitters. I don't think it is understood to be a working row.ghs wrote:...

Thanks, I guess that during the night the bottom row of panels are not really going to be visible... I'll have a closer look next time they test....

Well the cat's out of the bag Harbo Thanks for looking into the hours of operation. Can't wait.Harbo wrote:Hey you guys, dont you know this testing is supposed to be secret!

Here's a couple of pics... the bottom pic is from last weekend's testing. I noticed, a person sitting down on Rundle Street with a walkie talkie taking notes during testing. If you're reading this, I was the short guy taking photos from my phone, was going to have a chat to you but you looked really busy.
The top pic was from this morning. Some carnival action here.. wonder if this has anything to do with the premiere of Rundle Lantern.

Thanks Howie. Is that a red crane base in that first pic? haha the rides are just for the school holidays unfortunately.
The extended hours to 2am is a great idea. I think 12 is too early, especially during Daylight Saving.

Fantastic! Can't wait till this is operational! I just noticed though on that last pic, that the streetlights cast a significant amount of light over the panels thus diffusing the brightness of the colours - wonder if the ACC will take any steps to either dim the streetlights when operational or at least alter them? Anyway minor gripe, all good
[COM] Re: #U/C: Rundle Convergence
No, that is a good point mate. Maybe they could look at replacing those few with smaller lamp post instead.omada wrote:Fantastic! Can't wait till this is operational! Can anyone give me a heads up to a good pub/nightclub on Rundle St. I used to do the great trek all the time between the two streets. But I havent for months now.
Hindley street has be catered for. I need an excuse to do the trek!

[COM] Re: #U/C: Rundle Convergence
I've seen it in action in person - when the panels are lit they over power the cast light from the street lights no problem. My only complaint is the diffusers aren't making each panel a solid block of colour, they shine brighter near the LED arrays. But it's not a huge problem, and I should be slapped about for being a pedant.omada wrote:Fantastic! Can't wait till this is operational!
