I've been there a few times
Also, I really hate the Enigma, my mates only want to go there because "the emo chicks are easy".
Whatever happened to having fun when going out, when did getting a root become a necessity?

When God created Adam & Eve.
The LED's are brighter at their focus points but that's the nature of LED's I suppose. It looks brilliant and I'm guessing when the entire unit is lit it won't be an issue at all because your focus will be spread over a very broad area rather than concentrating on a single line or individual blocks.

That's what the diffusers are for!

Yeah I know that.
It's hard to explain, the LED's throw a slight pattern onto the diffusers?

LEDs (you don't need an apostrophe in a plural
) although not completely coherent like a laser, are a single point source of light, in order to have an 'even coverage' of colour on the reflectors you need a diffuser to 'bend' and scatter the single point source in all directions toward the panel.
The diffusers they have look like off the shelf ovoids, which scatter some of the light but still allow a brighter spot in the centre of the panels. A custom jobby would cast a rectangular projection with a thicker bit in the middle to really scatter.
Or something like that.

I don't think this is completed yet... the video on the site looks like an artists impression. I hope ours looks better than what the video shows, cos theirs looks a little average.

I think it looks good. A random ABC arts show did a segment on it, and it look fairly impressive. They had "ghost shadows" walking across the facade, which were silhouettes of people walking past!

I agree the Melbourne installation looks great and that needn't detract from Adelaide's. Honestly, I don't think they're all that similar, and the Rundle Lantern should turn out a much more impressive artwork simply by measure of its size and prominence. It would also seem to have more diverse capabilities. I'm excited for the launch!

This artwork is only shown during winter; visible Monday-Thursday, sunset till 12 midnight, and Friday-Sunday, sunset till approximately 2am, closing 15 September 2008. Meant to be repeated each year until 2012.
So, no it's no longer on now. Note that it too only runs until midnight, but later on weekends.
