Someone listen to that ABC radio thing tomorrow morning and summarise it for us

Found this, nothing exciting. Just a brief bit about the history of the Freemasons in SA, a bit about the architectural bits of the building (anyone familiar with architecture and ancient Greece would already know about the different columns).
It shows the interior part of the building they'll be knocking down for this development though, not sure if photos of it have been posted in this thread before.

The well-spoken @Micbara was on the ABC Radio broadcast today. He said that the previous plans to incorporate a SA history museum component into the building did not receive funding/support from the state government, so instead they have opted to increase the hotel portion of the building. From memory this was increasing from ~230 rooms to over 300 rooms total.

Based on those comments, we are probably still some way off seeing any boots and equipment on the ground as the development application will need to be updated, before it then goes to building rules consent and tender.

More opportunity for revenue I guess, praying it stays the same height.
This change will undoubtedly delay the project noticeably.
They could use this opportunity to put in some apartments
Heres a cross-section of the Hotel segment for reference

A pity about the delay
The Sofitel did OK out of a mix of hotel and high-end apartments. If the hotel increases the number of rooms / occupancy, it appears (to me) to become more viable and to have a long-term secure income stream. Having museums and public spaces is always nice but need to be provided at relatively low cost to the public. Having a larger 5 star hotel increases certainty on the investment.
Having said that, I hope the observation deck area at the top survives in the updated planning. And would assume there will be an entrance fee ($10-20) to provide the owners with another source of revenue. I would happily pay to go up there - a great place to take visitors to Adelaide to have a spectacular view of the CBD, the city, and the coastline.

It sounds like only the bottom floors (which was the museum) will be getting repurposed into hotel floor space.
Theres a great opportunity to utilize this vast space and create an amazing attrium/function space/multi-purpose entertainment area/etc. to impress guests. Could also be turned into office space!

Advertiser saying they expect the Westin hotel inside Masonic lodge tower to be open by 2026 in a recent article. A bit of a stretch if you ask me.
Article segment:
Westin Hotel
Location: 254 North Tce, Adelaide
Rooms: 236
Expected opening: 2026
Features: 236 rooms, a wellness retreat and three-level observatory.
Also set to arrive in Adelaide in 2026 is the $200m, 236 room luxurious Westin Hotel.
Set within the city’s first skyscraper – the 183m-tall Keystone Tower – the Marriott International hotel will feature 236 rooms, a wellness retreat and three-level observatory.
Marriott had initially planned to launch its Westin brand at the city’s GPO site, but that project was later rebranded to the flagship Marriott brand.
A deal for the world’s largest hotel chain to establish a third hotel in Adelaide has also been signed, but details remain closely guarded

Thu better get moving I guess?
End of 2026 may not be too much of a stretch. The upper levels may not be complete but the hotel could still open right?

This development won't happen.
Pure and simple.
It has zero economic sense.
There will be quotes around "construction costs" and a "key anchor tenant/operator" who has pulled out - and the thing dies.
You can use these fabricated quotes in months to come.
Swordmaster Davis will wave his wand at such words that offend thou whomst speak evil of their cult, but the Freemasons have had the wool pulled over their eyes by developers who haven't managed a single successful project in South Australia.
If it does happen - by pure chance - good luck to those of the handshaking brigade.
