[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval - Western Grandstand Construction Thr
comparing Chicago to Adelaide seriously, sit down!
my point is the existing view is a little spoiled by the ugly back end of that new stand

it was not a direct comparison between the two cities, that's a little narrow minded. If a building can be top of the world for 20 years plus, later to be over-taken, i dont see why people should conceed to the idea that Westpac will be Adelaide's tallest until kingdom come.
I personally think the new stand adds to the view, and actually does well in covering up a few of the ugly buildings on North Terrace (i.e. Qantas/Stamford), then again I'm pro change. Obviously we can't tall be that way though.

I must say the roof design has really grown on me, it looks rather impressive. Reminds me a little bit of the 'bubbles' of Melbourne's Rectangular Stadium. They really should work on replicating the roof design as part of the Eastern and Southern Grandstand projects - which I notice in the video demonstrations have different rooftops - hope that this isn't the case.

You might be looking at the old video. More recent fly-throughs have a move uniform roof style.Isiskii wrote:I must say the roof design has really grown on me, it looks rather impressive. well there really is no need to go higher plus that building actually exceeds existing height limits and given its history i think it will be quite a long time before it is topped.spiller wrote:it was not a direct comparison between the two cities, that's a little narrow minded. my expectation is that there will be very little commercial development for the next decade in any case, however when it resumes i dont expect Perth style spires in the middle of nowhere to be the order of the day. these kinds of structures are generally regional HQ's for banks and the like and well Adelaide really isnt that kind of town.
sorry off topic. back to the stand....it is unfortunate that they didnt incorporate some kind of external skin into the design to cover that unsightly concrete seating bank...as they have done with the new stadium in Melbourne.
good design seems to be secondary all too often in this place and things havent really improved.

I accept that, Tyler Durden. The SACA chairman's own words were that 'any member supporting the redevelopment will have their levy refunded'. That is consistent with every member receiving their levy back regardless of their vote. Perhaps it was an odd attempt sat spin by the SACA chairman.

well my new membership is due by end of the month!
I don't even think i'm being asked for a levy payment?
edit - crap yes I am

Don't give up those posts Stumpy. You give much info that is not forthcoming in a hurry from elsewhere and you make us think with it. It is evident that you do your homework and you have 'inside' info from your previous experiences and your current occupation. You seem particularly 'savvy' re process. I appreciate your contributions.stumpjumper wrote:I'm not savvy enough to start a blog. It wouldn't be very popular by all indications ...
I stick by the idea that in this project, because of the huge amount of public money involved, the 'how' is as important as the 'what'.

Can anyone shed any light on the legal status etc of the Stadium Management Authority?
It sounds like a de facto branch of the govt and I'm worried its something of a smoke screen to facilitate moving more money towards the project.
I want to know if it can borrow money or accumulate debt, and who would under-write it if it cant repay.
I'm ambivalent about the project and not looking for conspiracies, but as a tax-payer I'd like to know how the finances are going to work.

I drove past the other day though and I must say I can't wait for the Western Stand to be complete. It still looks very impressive.
