I think this photo is proof as to why it would have made more sense to close Rundle Road and create a new road running along the corridor of the tunnel to Grenfell Street. They won't be able to plant trees over the tunnel because of the limited depth so the corridor will stand out like a sore thumb for years to come. If people were concerned with how close it was going to be the Rymill Park lake, I'm sure the government might've have considered re-shaping the lake to draw it further away from the said new roadway and closer to Bartels Road or the bowling club. Considering how much parkland would have been returned with the closure of Rundle Road, plus the other points I've mentioned, the final proposal is really quite a loss-loss for the government and the people.
Looks like a driver found their way on to the bus lane at the end there. I wonder how many drivers will "accidentally" use the new tunnel.Norman wrote:I did a drive-by video of Hackney Road and the new East Terrace alignment last weekend, you can watch it here:

There's been a LOT of thought about attempting to stop motorists following busses into the tunnel. I was spitballing ideas with a couple of the networking systems engineers at one point early in the project (you would be amazed at how much electronics and networking are involved in the safety and pumping systems for just a simple cut and cover). I gathered that they were thinking about carpark style barriers early on. I suggested hall-effect sensors and the like, but also cautioned them on the zen-like ability of motorists to just tailgate busses where ever.AG wrote:Looks like a driver found their way on to the bus lane at the end there. The small group of NIMBYs who want to protect the Parklands but are aghast at the idea of taking car parks away from within the parklands.timtam20292 wrote:All thanks to a small group of NIMBYs
How else can APPA members enjoy their empty parklands if they can't drive there from Dulwich?Westside wrote:The small group of NIMBYs who want to protect the Parklands but are aghast at the idea of taking car parks away from within the parklands.timtam20292 wrote:All thanks to a small group of NIMBYs
Car parks! Won't somebody think of the car parks!
Granted it's a few years ago now, but when we were living in Stepney we went to the Royal once. Very very average food and service.Norman wrote:From what I've heard it was more because of the terrible food than the actual road works.
Wow I've been there a few times and the food wasn't that bad. Hope things can be turned around. The Scooter Guy wrote:In the spite of these works, the Royal Hotel in Kent Town has now gone into administration.
