Your problem is you have bad taste.
The open ended north end will be a great feature that will add character and beauty to a stadium that would otherwise be a concrete bowl. It's quite funny you mention the Rose Bowl, used primarily for College Football, because College Football has many many examples of horseshoe shaped stadiums. The USA is full of them.
Try these, for starters.

I could go on, but you get the idea. There are many others I haven't listed. And, believe it or not, every one of those I've listed has a capacity of over 50,000 some of them pushing 100,000.
Aesthetics and character are the main reason many of these stadiums retain such a feature. I think it'll be sensational for Adelaide to have something we too can be proud of. Those with enough good taste to appreciate it, that is.
P.S. the Rose Bowl was originally built in a horseshoe shape too, as seen in this photo from wikipedia.

I agree. AO is the best located stadium in the country relative to the city it resides in. In fact, its location and surrounds are truly world class. That's the major factor for me in why AO should become our premier stadium for football aswell as cricket. Even the railyards area that is so loved by many as a preferred location is not even in the same league as AO for location.

I think its very important to get that footbridge built from Central Train Station, linking North Tce to AOvia the Festival Centre forecourt! Its surely much cheaper to build a footbridge than the Tram extension to North Adelaide(with a super-stop at AO)

A tram would be pointless. 20,000 people will be moving towards the city after a game. How many can you fit on a tram? And if you miss the first tram it'll be quicker to walk than wait for the second, even if it shuttles back and forth between AO and North Terrace. The walk is really not that far.
I'm not against a footbridge. Although I don't think it should be essential, it can't hurt.

That's a great post Tyler, i think you only forgot one biggun.. Ohio's "The Horseshoe" seats 102+k
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Stadium
Funnily considering AO's long hard road to getting flood-light towers, OSU have to truck in lights whenever they host a night game.

In my mind the tram isn't just for AO, its for O'Connell Street and just happens to service AO as it passes. I think the footbridge is an essential part of the AO/riverbank precinct regardless on if the rest of the redevelopment goes ahead.

^^ Just a reminder that this is a construction thread. If you want to talk tram ideas, please use the Vision section. Feel free to start a thread there.
Thanks.

Agree - no concrete bowl please. Keep the north end open.
