Thanks for the pics.
I am undecided about this one. It looks good in more subtle light but I'm not sure about the stripes, especially around midday. The stripe width in particular gives the building a very 80's appearance to me. The stripes would work better if the lighter sections were thinner like other recent developments.
The developers must have forgot that floor to ceiling height glass is all the rage these days (for good reason too as it allows views for even those who work further towards the centre of the floor and better light penetration, even with the huge western expanse and afternoon sun it could have been done better) not 80's style smaller central windows.

10 bonus points for the reflection of Optus House. Now imagine if the other three proposals/visions on that side of KWS were built...

Thanks for the thanks... it's funny, I didn't even notice the reflection of Optus House until AtD pointed it out!
I have to say this building looks better in subdued light rather than full sun as the pics today were, but I'm prepared to wait until it's completely finished just to get a proper sense of it without gaps and mini-cranes and bits of scaffolding all over the place. It also looks pretty good looking down from Victoria square; nice to see something there instead of open space. I definitely think it would have been better looking with almost clear looking or lightly grey tinted glass but hey, I'm not paying for it...
I'm also prepared to forgive pretty much anything simply for making south entrance to the city look like a city.

I like this one. A lot. I too at first was a bit unsure about the outcome, particularly with the stripy late 80s/early 90s look, but I think the fact that it's all glass makes it so much better, as compared to the plastic/glass look of notable offenders like Roma Mitchell House and Optus building.
+1 kudos on reflection of Optus too. Neat stuff. And bring on Hills/379 KWS and Brecknock!

You beat me to it Phenom, great pics! I was down there this afternoon taking pics also (great day for it).
I don't mind the contrasting colours of the windows and separation panels, but i think this effect would become more sutble when the sunlight isnt directly on it.
Definately one of my favourites

there's no doubt - the building certainly does draw the eye.
The stripy glass tends to give the building a lower look with the accentuated horizontal lines. A pity.
Needs something else to draw the eye to the vertical aspect - perhaps a neon/mast etc.
Overall, still quite impressed.

When did this change from floor to ceiling glass to horizontal slits? If you go back to page one and look at the original renders, you'll see floor to ceiling clear glass.
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I don't think I'm a fan of this building, though I guess I should wait to see it in person..
On the bottom it looks about as friendly as a KGB facility, and on the top it looks like a boiled lolly. Curious. I guess it sort of fits in with the candy striped Optus House though

Regarding the stripes, I actually really like them. They break up what could have been a monolithic façade whilst at the same time emphasise the horizontal scale of the building.

I'm not liking the stripes.
Could they not have gone with just one style?
There's a building just next to it, or behind it, with similar stripes. When was that built?
Where they trying to make this one 'fit in' ?

The Sturt colours show up more when the afternoon suns shines into the building. When its cloudy, its hard to notice the 2 shades of blue
