Yeah I was a bit tongue-in-cheek because
a) the city skyline is several years old, with many new tall buildings missing
b) the 'lake' (?) in the middle-distance, to the right of the RAH, with hills beyond reminds me more of upper Spencer Gulf than Adelaide.

Secretly, it was filled with defects. A friend who visited it for university back in 2013 was tasked with finding this out. He succeeded.

How much more money would it take to make the North Adelaide centre FINA-compliant? Might as well return competitions here if rebuilding anyway.

That would require admitting the Marion complex was an ill thought out poorly located folly by a previous Labor government.

I’m trying to understand why SAPOL have such strict requirements for the proximity to the CBD of their Mounted Police Unit, when (from my understanding) no other state has their equivalent unit(s) so close to the CBD nor do they have a staging paddock within the CBD. Seems that SAPOL are being precious about the whole thing.

To be fair though, do they deploy the mounted unit anywhere on a significant basis outside of the CBD?

Mounted police are used mainly in situations where crowd calming /control is required...usually tight urban conditions (in Adelaides case the CBD) where they can be deployed rapidly and easily even if just for a general Saturday night shift. The reason I suppose that the other states do not operate similar units in close proximity to their CBD's may be that they do not have the luxury of vast, largely unused sections of parkland in close proximity.
