THE first two contracts for Adelaide's new hospital are expected to create 200 jobs over the next five years.
New Royal Adelaide Hospital builders Hansen Yuncken-Leighton Contractors yesterday awarded the first two contracts to members of the Hastie Group.
Frigrite Air Conditioning and CDC Plumbing & Drainage will complete mechanical, medical gases and hydraulic engineering services for the hospital - jobs that will bring them $270 million over the next five years.
Project director Greg Shubin said the group had opened an office on Port Rd, from which it would run the contract and grow over the next five years, with an expected 200 professional and on-site jobs.
"This is probably the largest contract we have signed," he said. "In South Australia we have done large projects - the airport, the SA Water building, we did the Adelaide Oval western grandstand and the Marion Aquatic Centre - but we've done nothing of the magnitude of the New Royal Adelaide Hospital.
"The business will significantly increase in size to accommodate this project."
Hansen Yuncken-Leighton Contractors joint venture development director Chris Pratt said the signing showed Adelaide's new hospital would have a distinctly South Australian flavour.
"Frigrite are an outstanding SA contractor and together with CDC Plumbing have been long-term partners in the bid for this project," he said.
"Our joint venture is particularly pleasing as this signing demonstrates the strength of our relationship and the significant expertise that lies with the SA marketplace."
Frigrite Air Conditioning is also involved with the Rundle Mall Plaza project and will develop the airconditioning engineering and installation for the hospital.
Melbourne-based CDC has recently completed projects at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital and Convention Centre.
Demolition and remediation of the hospital site has already begun with plans to prepare pilings for the retaining wall along North Tce by the end of the year.
Every building in the skyline appears to conform to the same height, "State Bank" and "Black Stump" excluded. They need to mix it up a bit, I thinkUrbanSG wrote:Site works, taken today:
