No, I was merely promoting the sales effect of scantily-dressed men upon cars, as opposed to the sales effect of bikini-clad women in the same circumstance.

Nov 13-15: Australian Equestrian 3 Day Event

This is stated as being the most significant horse sport event in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting the nation’s best riders - and it's in our parklands!

http://www.newsmaker.com.au/news/1608
Planning for Adelaide's world-class equestrian event, the 2009 Australian International 3 Day Event, is gathering speed with organisation now well underway for another successful - and expanded - event to be held in Adelaide’s Parklands from November 13 to 15.

Olympic Gold medallist Stuart Tinney, Olympic Silver medallist Shane Rose and World Cup Pacific League dressage champion Heath Ryan, all from New South Wales, have confirmed they will take part along with Olympic medallists Megan Jones and Wendy Schaeffer, both from South Australia and Sonja Johnson from Western Australia.

Australian team representatives Amanda Howell, Olivia Bunn and Georgia Clifford from Victoria are also expected to compete along with World Cup final contender Kevin Mc Nab from Queensland.

Event Director Gillian Rolton said the Australian International 3 Day Event was the most significant horse sport event in the Southern Hemisphere and she was thrilled that the nation’s best riders would once again be showcasing their skills.

“Tickets are now on sale, with this year set to be bigger and better than ever with an expanded range of events, as well as a strong field of competitors from Australia and New Zealand in the Olympic level four star class,” said Ms Rolton. “In 2009, spectators will have the added bonus of witnessing some of the Southern Hemisphere’s best equestrian athletes as the 2009 Australian International 3 Day Event plays host to New Zealand’s finest horse and rider combinations competing against the Aussies for the hotly contested Trans Tasman Championship.”

Mr Tinney said he looked forward to the Australian International 3 Day Event and enjoyed competing in Adelaide which provided an exciting atmosphere due to the event’s city parkland location.

“People travel from all over Australia and overseas to come to this event to support the riders and their horses, and enjoy the spectacle of dressage, cross country and show jumping in a unique city location,” he said. “The pace is fast and furious and people can see some of the biggest names of the equestrian world in action.”

With the Saturday of the event coinciding with the running of Adelaide’s much loved Credit Union Christmas Pageant on November 14, organisers are theming the day as a “family day” encouraging families to enjoy the fabulous sights and sounds of the Pageant and then spend the afternoon relaxing in the parklands.

For the kids, there'll be plenty to see and do, including pony rides, a dedicated playground area, arts and crafts and children’s entertainment. While for the mums and dads, the expanded Trade and Lifestyle Village and the Food and Wine Fair - featuring some of South Australia's finest wineries – should appeal to every appetite.

“Rymill Park will again be the vibrant ‘heart of the event’ and we're really working hard to make sure that it offers even more attractions for horse lovers and the general public alike,” said Ms Rolton. “Tickets are now on sale through Venuetix and we'd love you to come along to be part of all the excitement and fun!”

The Tang So Doo World Championship will be held at the Convention Centre from Oct 31 - Nov 2: http://www.southaustralia.com/9008014.aspx. Admission is free, they are requesting a donation for the Women's & Children's Hospital. Tang soo do is a Korean form of karate most famously practised by Chuck Norris (who was so angered by my inferior hands typing his name that he punched the ground, sending a shockwave that caused my bus to run off a bridge; I only hope medical help arrives before he decides to finish the job). I want someone to make a montage of scenes from the tournament set to "You're the best around".

Fun at VSQ

Dec 12-19 at VSQ.

http://city-messenger.whereilive.com.au ... christmas/
Victoria Square will be buzzing with festive spirit from next Saturday (December 12) with the start of a family-friendly week of free Christmas activities.

The northern section of the square will be transformed with roving performers, games, craft workshops, face painting, music and food stalls until December 19.

Children are encouraged to download a ornament shape from the Adelaide City Council website, decorate it and bring it along to be hung on the 23-metre high Christmas tree.

Adelaide City Council Lord Mayor Michael Harbison says the Square will be fun for all ages, with Father Christmas set to appear as a special guest.

Walford Anglican School for Girls students Lily Campbell and Lilli Stephenson had a preview of the festivities last week, placing the first Santa Claus decoration on the tree.

Adelaide Climate Change Protest on Dec 12

5000+ expected in the CBD.

http://city-messenger.whereilive.com.au ... test-walk/
More than 5000 people wearing sky blue shoelaces will take to city streets to protest against climate change next Saturday, December 12.

They’ll join 100,000 protesters across Australia for Walk Against Warming, all encouraged to wear blue shoelaces as a symbol of a clean atmosphere.

The event, organised by the Conservation Council of SA along with other community and environmental groups, will leave from Victoria Square at 11am, along King William St, Grenfell, Pulteney and Rundle St to Rymill Park.

Conservation Council executive director Julie Pettett says she hopes the procession will send a strong message to the Federal Government, at the half-way mark of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“We are calling on the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to act on the strong science that demands action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to ensure a safe climate future,” she says.

“With Copenhagen in full swing, it’s vital that our politicians are sent an unequivocal signal about how important strong action is.”
