http://dpti.sa.gov.au/news?a=300028Torrens Rail Junction - Permanent closure of Bowden Station pedestrian underpass
As part of the Torrens Rail Junction Project, the Bowden Railway Station pedestrian underpass will permanently close from Tuesday 28 March 2017, in preparation for the future lowering of the Outer Harbor passenger rail line.
The Gibson Street level crossing will also be temporarily closed to traffic, pedestrians and cyclists from Saturday 25 March 2017 to Sunday 2 April 2017 to allow piling works to be undertaken.
Alternative detour routes will be in place via East Street, and signage will alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions.
These works include demolishing 50 metres of the Gibson Street end of city bound railway platform and adjacent the Outer Harbor Greenway, and removing the shelter on the city bound platform. This work will not impact regular Adelaide Metro train services and the remaining section of the city bound platform will remain accessible.
The Outer Harbor Greenway will be closed between Drayton Street and Park Terrace from Saturday 25 March 2017 to Sunday 2 April 2017. Alternate routes will be signposted and details are available at Cycle Instead (http://maps.sa.gov.au/cycleinstead/).

[COM] Re: Torrens Junction Underpass
Could they not have waited to close the underpass until after they reopen Gibson St?
"Advance notice" signs were only placed on Gibson St earlier this week, with no mention of how much of the street is closed nor with the finishing date.

[COM] Re: Torrens Junction Underpass
Interesting but unsurprising development - not that many people get on or off at Bowden really.
Following from our recent notification regarding April Activities on the Torrens Rail Junction project, we wanted to advise you of a decision made by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure this morning.
The Torrens Rail Junction Project includes construction of a new lowered Bowden Station which is scheduled for completion in early 2018.
To ensure works can be completed safely and efficiently for passengers, the community and construction workers, the City-bound platform at Bowden Station will be closed after the last service on Tuesday 11 April 2017, until the end of October 2017. From Wednesday morning 12 April 2017 no inbound trains will stop at Bowden Station.
The outbound platform will remain open until September 2017.
There will be no change to train timetables on the Grange or Outer Harbor train lines.
Alternate transport options for people using this platform include the tram stop and the bus stops on Port Road or North Adelaide train station. Passengers travelling from Outer Harbor/Grange who alight at Bowden can alight one stop earlier at Croydon and catch the bus on Port Road one stop to Bowden, or stay on the train to Adelaide Railway Station, then change and catch a train one stop back to Bowden (or use the free tram).
Visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au to plan your journey.
For real time roadwork information download the AddInsight app for Apple or Android or visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au.

Friendly reminder: Daniel and I, Community Relations team, will be attending the Plant 4 markets on Saturday 8th (9am-1pm) and Wednesday 12thApril (4pm-8pm). Do not hesitate to come and meet us then with any questions/concerns you may have.

Buildings next to city-bound platform at Bowden are being knocked down as we speak. This is to accommodate the temporary track to the north-east of the existing track. Video and photos coming in the next few hours

They’ve started laying a new track to the north of the existing ones along War Memorial Drive. Here-ish:
[COM] Re: Torrens Junction Underpass
I'm assuming they're diverting the Gawler line onto that bit of track and the Outer Harbour line onto the Gawler track?

That was my thinking - I know there's some shifting of platforms going on at ARS so that would fit in with that.
Incidentally, I did drop the project team an email to see if they could shed any light on the exact logistics around the impacts of the excavation on the line(s). Their response was:

During 14-25 April, the construction activities will concentrate on piling at various locations along the rail corridor. We will also continue to build the structure of the 3 underpasses (Torrens Junction, Park Terrace and Gibson Street).
Our construction team will be spread over a total of 8 workfronts to perform the works required.
Part of the rail works will also include a minimal tracks slew of Outer Harbor and Gawler lines to allow room to build the future Torrens Junction underpass.
The bulk of the excavation itself will be carried out later in the year.

At completion, Outer Harbour will switch to be the northern most lines in/out of the railway station, to go under both the Gawler and ARTC lines at the junction.
There was a mail drop recently which showed that all the tracks will be diverted on temporary tracks, but I can't find it on the project website. Showed all three lines diverting west slightly of the current tracks, with Gawler and ARTC joining back to their normal tracks shortly after the existing split, and Outer Harbour temp tracks crossing over to the east of the existing line just before Park Tce.

I'm not sure how up-to-date this document is, but it contains all the stages of "option 2", which is the one they might be going with.Nathan wrote:At completion, Outer Harbour will switch to be the northern most lines in/out of the railway station, to go under both the Gawler and ARTC lines at the junction.

Yup, that map on page 1 looks like what we received.Norman wrote:I'm not sure how up-to-date this document is, but it contains all the stages of "option 2", which is the one they might be going with.Nathan wrote:At completion, Outer Harbour will switch to be the northern most lines in/out of the railway station, to go under both the Gawler and ARTC lines at the junction.

That's what I was looking for! Cheers for that, all makes sense now.
Sort of.
Option 2 shows no slew to the WMD side of the lines until Stage 5 of construction, whereas that's what seems to be happening now. Either they're getting that bit done early (seems unlikely as that would be the final alignment of the OH line) or this slew is required as prerequisite to some of the other work (cabling perhaps?).
Or there's an Option 3 which isn't on this version of the plan.
Also, it's interesting that my reply from DPTI states

I wouldn't have classed any of the track movements on the plans as 'minimal' given that they deviate off into parklands (the APPA will have a field day with that one) and a whole new temporary level crossing will be needed but perhaps that's nitpicking.Part of the rail works will also include a minimal tracks slew of Outer Harbor and Gawler lines to allow room to build the future Torrens Junction underpass
