While watching the test cricket at AO I noticed the cranes were aligning themselves with the prevailing wind direction, more or less.
Question: Is this movement caused merely by the wind (i.e. the cranes freely rotate like weather vanes)? or do they have in-built intelligence to auto-align with the wind direction (maybe to reduce torsion style stresses)?

CML crane up to day and a truck drove past me with pieces and a cabin so another going up somewhere today maybe rah? This would take us to a record 17 cranes!!!

surely not for the extra floors on the cube? Could they install loading platforms? Looks heigh, a lot of clearance for the boom

A tower crane was erected for the refurbishment of Place on Brougham. Maybe something similar this time?

Another two crane bases have been erected at the RAH site, however I think one of them might be for a concrete pump, due to it's relatively close proximity to another crame (less than 30m)

One of these days I'd like to see how self climbing cranes are put up and taken down. But I'm always otherwise engaged when it happens. Don't suppose anyone has a time lapse video of such an event?

I've watched a few in the last couple of years. This should give you an idea!
Mobile cranes, closed roads and things moving slowly. Franklin st crane that came down last weekend took 2+ days.
