got to say well done to the SA redbacks defeating the overhyped and overpaid Mumbai Indians plastic franchise overnight
it would be good if we could host a Champions League here but i doubt it will happen any time soon with Australia being very much on the outer of cricket politics these days

From yesterday - seat bases being installed in southern bays, roof commenced on middle bay, steelwork almost complete on northern bay, red brick veneer
applied to exposed concrete ...

the Rose Bowl was originally built in a horseshoe shape too, as seen in this photo from wikipedia.
Going by the photo above, the Rose Bowl seems to have earthworks supporting the seating. The exit ways you can see must lead to a tunnel system.

that seemed to be the preferred method for large stadium designs up until the 1970's. even our own football park was basically a hole in the ground when it opened in 1974.

I am fairly sure they are light bulbs, as they are recessed into the tubes, instead of typical CCTV domes, but I'll have a closer look next time.
Must be cams around somewhere to catch bottle throwers etc.

I like that they're covering up the concrerte walls with red bricks. I wonder how far they will take that?

I dont know about the bricks, gee, i dunno. I see how they are trying to tie it in with the original wall and perhaps the bradman sand (which could be gone in a few years) but I thought AO was trying to shake i the "red" tag.

i dunno...

I rest my case, its obvious that you guys are cricket fans and love to have a barbecue and a beer under the fig
trees and look for devine intervention from st paul by looking at the cathedral when things are going bad.
But for AFL and Soccer having a U shaped toilet bowl of a stadium with gaps in between will cause wind tunnel
effects that will be the thorn in all football players sides.

Current design is definitely not World Class and definitely not FIFA compliant...

As for aesthetics if you are watching an AFL match or a Football Match i doubt you will care or have too much
time to look at the lillies growing on the northern hill. Maybe thats what you like doing when your there to
watch a test match and the likely outcome is a draw.

I thought all those horseshoe stadiums were football stadiums. Maybe they don't have wind in America.

^^ and IIRC a few of the stadiums at the very recent Football WC in South Africa had open ends, e.g. durban? also E.G. the main stadium in Germany at the 2006 WC (old olympic stadium).

especially if they proceed with the AFL development the Western stand will be obsolete in style in about 4 years

It will be classic IMO. The bricks do link with the original walls - much better than bland cement.
