I’d much rather this 70’s/80’s box over Dwell anyday.
I feel the Waynouth cheese block owuldnlook quite striking if it had something more done to its facade. It’s not in the same league as Dwell imo.

I really don't think the Swiss Cheese building is that bad. For everyone I speak to who hates it, I can usually find someone else who quite likes it. Dwell on the other hand is definitely a disgrace. It only pisses me off even more knowing that they destroyed an old factory with so much history and potential for redevelopment to make way for it.
Blame who you like, but the bottom line is architects and developers would not be able to get away with this sort of thing if we had an approval process and body that promoted basic design principles and didn't allow this sort of crap. Whoever signed off on it needs a rocket put up them.
Agree wholeheartedly. I've personally grown to like the Swiss Cheese. It's different and interesting. It's got people talking. The developer could have built a boring box but they chose not to. As other buildings grow up around it, it's impact will be limited to its immediate surrounds and it will remain an interesting building.
Dwell on the other hand is a monstrosity with no redeeming features and a total lack of architectural merit. There may be examples around the world from the 70s that are equally as bad, but hard to imagine any could be worse. I wouldn't blame the developer - their job is to maximise return on the site within the constraints imposed by the architect and planners. It's the architects who should be ashamed of themselves - they should have prevented this outcome or refused to put their name to it. The planners should be held accountable for allowing this to be built. There was no way this could ever have looked good - it was terrible in the renders and it's even worse in real life.
The glass on Adelaidean will make or break it. Let's all hope Dwell is not a sign of what's to come.

I won't hear bad words against Blues Point Tower.
I'm ok with Dwell (other than the windows not quite being centred within the circles). There's nothing particularly offensive about it, and it sits mid block, so respecting the heritage architecture fronting Rundle St is less of an issue. If we want to point fingers at buildings that detract from the east end, I'd be singling out the various multi-storey car parks and the Alpha/Palais apartments.

I’m ok with it too. Sure it could look better but I agree with Nathan. There is nothing offensive about it.

I/we were talking about built within the past 5 years [let alone brand spanking new like this one].. so I would like to see worse if you have any examples?

Nathan and timtam weren't talking about other examples, they were almost praising the atrociousness of Dwell.

If we look at AndyWelsh's picture
and then one of the renders,
it seems fair to say the lower half of the podium is what's been built and the core is sitting where the upper half of it will be. Does anyone have any measurements of the plans? I'm interested in knowing how tall the podium is.
