ASPEN Group's $195 million Tower 8 development will be unveiled today and will create the city's largest office building.
The 17 level tower comprises more than 37,000sq m of office space - part of Aspen's City Central precinct bordered by King William, Franklin, Bentham and Waymouth streets.
The Australian Tax Office will relocate from its Waymouth St premises tomorrow, taking up 90 per cent of the new building, alongside Australia Post.
Aspen state general manager Ben Yates said the company would focus on future development at the precinct.
"The completion of Tower 8 will see Australia Post's city distribution centre operations, including post office boxes and administration functions move from the GPO building into Tower 8," he said.
"Only the retail shop will remain in its present location.
"This move will be the catalyst for freeing up the balance of the City Central site for future redevelopment.
"Aspen has been reviewing its master planning for future City Central development based on an updated analysis of future hotel, commercial and residential market expectations and revised planning regulations in the City of Adelaide Development Plan."
Construction of the Tower 8 building was led by Baulderstone and designed by architectural firm Woods Bagot. It was designed to achieve a 5 star Green Star energy rating.
State building manager Chris Leopold said major projects such as Tower 8 helped the company attract young talent.
"We are starting to see some more activity on the private sector front and we're hopeful that this will grow in the short term," he said.
Telstra will take a 50 per cent ownership stake in Tower 8 on Wednesday.
