I've noticed that on the podium levels that they have decided to paint the concrete between the glazing, which is ok from a distance but up close, cheapens the appearance of the building.

Hopefully the tower section will have traditional glazing rather than the framed glazing being used so far.

Crane height increase is happening today. Already obviously taller an hour ago (around 1pm) and they were still going.
Anyone know how they add those additional sections to the crane?

One of the upper mast sections contains hydraulic jacks which allow the crane to push itself up prior to inserting another mast segment to support the growing crane. Repeated over and over.

There are some good city skyline views from the streets near my house, with a particularly clear line of sight towards Vue. I'm thinking of taking a new photo from the same spot, every two weeks, so we can track its growth from a distance. Here's the first one (25/6/2015).

Anyone else notice the glass being used on this one? When the first few panels went up I was a bit concerned. Now more have gone up and I'm really getting worried! The brown aluminum frames looks really 70s. Reminds me of the ugly window frames on the Samuel Way court bulding or the festival centre.

I'm confident it will look better when complete and obviously will reserve full judgement for completion but at the moment it doesn't look flattering.

Still gonna be an awesome building though.

I'm not concerned about brown aluminium frames. As long as it's not the usual silver aluminium frames which every. single. building. seems to use, I'm happy.

Now that there's more glass, the podium is looking better. I'm interested to see what the full curtain glazing for the tower section looks like.

From today, the street level bulk of this building is impressive, the floor plates are close to the halfway mark of the total building's height.

I work in Vic Sq so I get to watch this one go up, and I am quite impressed with its size. It is most certainly going to add some much needed height to the southern end of the CBD. :D

I must say, I find it interesting that instead of setting the upper building back on it's podium that they've set it forward. Usually architects avoid this as to stop the street level from feeling enclosed.

Interestingly, the ACC Development Plan stipulates that buildings within a 'Capital City Zone' (basically the core and the City South section of the CBD) - that buildings should be built right up against to the street to reinforce the built form and grid layout of the city... or something to that effect. So it's a practice that's encouraged, not discouraged. Grenfell Street seems to be the exception... but I think that was under a different planning regime / laws.

And then ACC have used "overshadowing" and "wind tunnel effect" as one of the reasons to reject a building application....Go figure.

The first of the glazing brackets have been mounted for the curtain wall cladding.

Also the steel work for the entrance feature is progressing well.
