Hah. A tad excessive. So when do we get those shiny new 5-piece trams?

i heard on the TV News tonight that the Tram Overpass will start by May 09. Construction rights have been given to the company who built the bakewell underpass. Completion is by Dec 09.

That's flashy. Getting this done in 7 months will be quite some effort.

The South Australian Government says construction of the tram bridge over South Road at Glandore will not cause serious traffic disruption when work starts in May.

A contract for the $32 million construction project has been given to McConnell Dowell Constructors which also built the Bakewell Underpass.

South Australian Transport Minister Pat Conlon says the tram bridge will complement the new Gallipoli Underpass, eliminating a traffic bottleneck on South Road.

"We hope to get a period of consultation, get works commenced in May and get finished in December, which will be not long after the underpass at Anzac Highway is open to traffic," he said.

Mr Conlon says the project will cause some traffic hold ups, but they will be short-lived.

"It really has been minimised in one of the most - if not the busiest - roads in SA so I expect these people will be able to do as good a job as they did on Bakewell," he said.

"The same sort of job as they did on the Anzac underpass, where the disruption really has been minimal."

Colour?

Am I right to think that this doesn't include the pedestrian/bike bridge? When will that get built?

And what I find funny is that DTEI have said they will not be doing anything about the pedestrian crossing between this and the Cross Rd overpass.

I'm not sure if anything has been changed since the fact sheet was released but that provides all of the details about the cycle path which will be apart of the overpass project. As for construction of the overpass, tram services will continue as normal by means of a 'shoe fly' in tramway terminology. In English, Glengyle and Norman Tce will have either one or even both lanes closed and either other one or two temporary tracks laid around the work site to keep tramway traffic moving. South Rd/Anzac Highway's Gallipoli Underpass to open at last

TRAFFIC will start flowing through the Gallipoli Underpass - the section of South Rd running under Anzac Highway - tomorrow night.

It will initially be restricted to one lane in each direction throughout the weekend to facilitate final traffic alignment works.

The Transport Department today announced traffic would flow unimpeded along all lanes of the new underpass from 6am on Monday.

However, motorists are advised major works on South Rd will be taking place at varying times until Tuesday to complete the traffic alignment process.

First drilling for the $118 million project began almost two years ago to the day.

Construction will now begin on a new tram overpass a few hundred metres south of the underpass. This is forecast for completion late this year.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS - AS ADVISED BY TRANSPORT SA

South Road

- Orchard Street and Hale Street will be CLOSED to South Road. Traffic access will be provided to businesses on the southeast corner of Anzac Highway and South Road and to local residents. Residents on South Road between Orchard Street and Eurilpa Avenue will also be provided with access to and from their properties. Eurilpa Avenue will be CLOSED at the South Road end.

- Remaining residents of Everard Park, including those living on Eurilpa Avenue will be required to use alternative routes while works are in progress. Entry to and from Anzac Highway will be via Berkley Avenue and Hillsley Avenue. This will be the main access point between South Road and Anzac Highway.

- Alternatively, traffic approaching from the south can use Cross Road and East Avenue where the tramline can be crossed at Victoria Street and entrance into Everard Park in all directions is possible.

- Forest Avenue, Black Forest will be left in and out only.

- Variable Messages Signage and other signage will be in place on the southeastern side of Anzac Highway and South Road advising of the access points for local businesses and residents.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS - AS ADVISED BY TRANSPORT SA

South Road

- Traffic will be switched from the existing South Road into the underpass from 6pm (approx.) on Friday 27th March. Police will be on site to assist with the traffic switch over.

- Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 5pm on Friday from Forest Avenue, Black Forest into the underpass

- Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 6pm Friday, from the underpass to Forest Street, Glandore.

Anzac Highway

- City-bound lanes are unaffected, with three lanes operational.

- Glenelg-bound traffic will be reduced to two lanes.

- The Police and traffic controllers will also be on site to assist motorists when required. A reduced speed limit of 25 kph will apply around the works area.

Bus Stops

- Bus stop 5 (north of Tyson Street Ashford) will be temporarily closed during works.

- Bus stop 7 (just north of the tramline) will be temporarily located to the south side of the tramline during works.

- New bus stop 6, opposite Hale Street on South road will open.

Tram Crossing

- The automatic tram boom gates will not be available for south bound traffic while these works are in progress. Tram guards and traffic controllers will control traffic movements to ensure that the tram crossing operates as normal as possible.

- Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays while works are in progress.

Just saw this on ten news, and its starting to look pretty good, especially the bridge.

Street beautification and urban features are still yet to be finished. Apparently the whole project will be 100% complete by the end of the year.

Gotta love how the news managed to put a negative spin on the new tram overpass
