They won't be able to plant trees along the that channel to fill in the gaps and closing Rundle Road would have made for a reasonably large chunk of parkland returned. Did the APPA even know what they were protesting for?

Yes we have a poorer solution from both perspectives. The APPA didn't seem to realise that the original plan was more of a win for the parklands. Sheer ignorant bloody mindedness.Waewick wrote:they were protesting against change.Patrick_27 wrote:Looking through those aerial shots, goes to show how much more sense it would have made to have stuck with the original proposal of closing Rundle Road and creating a new road along the channel of the tunnel... Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

+1 APPA are complete numpties. You'd have more luck negotiating with IS.Waewick wrote:they were protesting against change.Patrick_27 wrote:Looking through those aerial shots, goes to show how much more sense it would have made to have stuck with the original proposal of closing Rundle Road and creating a new road along the channel of the tunnel... Ch9 News last night had a short spiel on the O-Bahn tunnel. Said (paraphrasing ) the roof is almost finished and they're on track for the schedued opening in late 2017.

Hopefully in time for next year's Fringe Festival & 'Adelaide 500' (I say Adelaide 500 because the CAMS's deal with Clipsal has ended).Kasey771 wrote:Ch9 News last night had a short spiel on the O-Bahn tunnel. An update on the Hackney Road bridge over the River Torrens . It is still difficult to see what progress has been made because most of the work is occurring under the western most bridge. Picture 29/3/2017.

The old East Tce alignment road surface was pretty much all but removed this morning.

Latest photos from The Advertiser of the O-Bahn tunnel.
Drone images show progress of $160m O-Bahn tunnel that will save Adelaide commuters 3½ minutes
NEW drone images have captured the progress of the O-Bahn bus tunnel project — and commuters are expected to reap the travel benefits by the end of the year.
The Sunday Mail contracted a licensed drone operator to take photographs of the $160 million construction project from the air — six months after a flyover in November last year.
The aerial photographs reveal the magnitude of the project, which will cut the existing bus commute to and from the north-eastern suburbs to the CBD by seven minutes — just 3 ½ minutes each way — and reduce traffic congestion.
The construction works, which began in April last year, create a tunnel through Rymill Park to connect the bus route to Grenfell St.
