[COM] Adelaide Convention Centre - Stage 3 | $350m
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
Bah, that's one of the most boring concepts I've seen.UrbanSG wrote:This plan appears to conflict with the Casino plan at the rear of the Railway Station.
The festival center as a whole should be rebuilt with a modern design.
Seems everyone has gotten a wiff of some tax payer funded project and wants a slice of it while they can get it.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Uni or whoever owns those little buildings for the rowing club come up with their own proposal next.
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
Very average proposal, and can we get over this Federation Square obsession rubbish.
Xaragmata, I LOVE that last shot. Excellent work

Agree. Bland and boring.crawf wrote:Very average proposal, and can we get over this Federation Square obsession rubbish.
The Festival Centre (and surrounds) is badly in need of a revamp. The facilities are antiquated and the surrounding plaza is not much better than a moonscape.
But this proposal does not do it for me. I would hate to see one outdated facility replaced with an uninspiring and unimaginative design like this.
Back to the drawing board please.

in this case, it appears that the State not having the ability to fund it might work in our favour!
Also agree re:Fed square obsession, it is now just a throw away line used to "impress" the masses.

That phot with the convention centre and Sahmri cranes is just brilliant!

Just like the Casino, the FC has its vested interests. Glossy renders are nice, but i hope the IDC is requiring all stakeholders (FC, Casino, Hotel, ACC, State Govt, Property Council, Etc) to formally state in WORDS what they believe to be the primary problems & opportunities within the riverbank district. A picture tells a thousand words but that's far from enough.Adelaide Festival Centre wants to revamp River Torrens precinct
ADELAIDE'S Festival Centre has presented its vision for integrating the arts precinct into the Torrens riverbank, in a passionate pitch to the Government.
For example, FC Management could state these problems & opportunities from their perspective (just a few examples):
- * Problem: The FC building currently has it's back to the Torrens Riverfront Precinct. All interaction with the FC is undercover and to the south & east of the building. This means the FC is an overall detractor from a riverbank perspective. Answer: Activate the north & west sides to enliven the riverbank district (HOW to activate is a separate question)
* Opportunity: Increase FC revenue by XX% based on offering these new/additional events types (event type a,b,c) coincident with increased number of people in the area before/after AO sporting events. This will have the flow on effect of making the overall precinct more successful.
* Opportunity: Increase FC revenue by XX% by offering these additional services (cafe, restaurant, bar, child minding services, whatever, etc)
* Opportunity: Increase FC revenue by XX% by offering FC-owned outdoor events that appeal to Gen Y in a newly created event space
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Quite a fan of that light cannon thing, just quietly.

Agreed. Although I'm not sure the airline pilots would.Matt wrote:Quite a fan of that light cannon thing, just quietly.

[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
mm glass boxes and a giant Adelaide metro logo, just what the people want
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
There is absolutely nothing nice about the festival theaters proposal.
Some generic midget glass box, some boring I assume glass box thing attached to the back of the casino that seems to extend at a reduced height(seems to be like 5meters high) behind the Intercontinental, and of course a nice little cafe on Elder park to boost the festival theaters revenue. Oh and some tall dildo thing with a light shining out of it.
Maybe they could use that dildo structure to emit advertisements of the latest event at the festival theater?
If they can bring Tupac back to life with a life-size hologram where he even mentions the event he is at, I'm sure they can come up with something more creative here..
Actually, here's a thought, why don't they permanently light up the festival theaters white roofs with those projected images they had along North tce buildings once?

[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
i think after seeing these renders i actually now prefer the bridge to end between the festival theatre shells rather than to other side in front of intercontinental
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre, Casino & Riverbank Developme
The buildings themselves are fairly simple geometrically, so I don't think Northern Lights style projections would have the same impact.rev wrote: Actually, here's a thought, why don't they permanently light up the festival theaters white roofs with those projected images they had along North tce buildings once?
What I would love to see would be the outer surface of the theaters converted into light displays like those of the Rundle Lantern and the dome in front of the Entertainment Center.
