Are you heading there from Morphett Vale, just to see that? If so, respect! I love that commitment! Cheers heaps! :D

Also, I dunno if I've said this, but your name always reminds me of this. :P

I don't mind the trek up South Road on a weekend, it's almost pleasant (compared to weekdays).
And I might possibly be catching up with a mate in Salisbury anyway, if not, I'm still keen to see it.

Haha! Have not heard that one before, interesting linkup!
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

And from the attached pdf
This has now made it to the construction update page.

There will be the usual ribbon cutting ceremony, surely. Western Australia's most expensive road project (to that time), the Peel Deviation (Kwinana Freeway extension and Forrest Highway) was opened to great public fanfare.

Perhaps in this case the ribbon will be cut when the northbound carriageway is opened, just prior to the state election.

It has not opened today.

Was hoping to drive on it on the way to work this morning, but it was still closed off.

Nice pics.

No sign yet of that induced demand.

At the northern end, there looks to be sufficient deck width ultimately for a fourth lane.

Given the set up, I'm surprised they built emergency stopping lanes in lieu of a fourth lane. I thought one of the reasons for variable speed limits for each lane was in the event of a breakdown, the vehicle can stop where it is, and the traffic diverted to the other lanes using the variable speed limit signs (similar to what they do in Victoria and Queensland).

Only on one lane at any given time. That's 2/3's right.

The same principal was applied with the Northbridge Tunnel in Perth when that was initially built. 2-lanes plus an emergency stopping lane in each direction. It was reconfigured to 3-lanes in each direction last year.

The additional deck capacity at that end of the Superway I'd suggest is for additional capacity when the Northern Connector is built. As it is, I suspect the current 3-lanes represents the current feed in capacity, two lanes from Salisbury Highway westbound and one (when opened) from the Port River Expressway eastbound. Perhaps someone can confirm.

I'll take 65% in that case and be thankful you weren't the first to christen the barrier. :)

Before they started building the Superway I emailed the project team, as I regarded the plan for 3+3 lanes as initially extravagant and ultimately inadequate. They told me the deck was planned to be wide enough for 4+4 lanes.

It might just be the perspective from the angle of the shots, but in Rev's last two pictures, it looks like there is no stopping lane, just a basic shoulder, and no room to widen the carriageway to add a 4th lane.
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

You know, you're a little bit of a douchebag sometimes, Mono. <3

Rev, awesome pics! And I'm glad you told us the truth that you were veering from one lane to another to take some happy-snaps. I'm sure there will be a ton (well, technically about twenty thousand tons) more traffic tomorrow, as people begin to see that it is opened again. Looks awesome! I'm glad this was built.

Also, this was from Channel Seven's 6pm News show tonight.
