You could sensibly argue that it isn't worth preserving, or that there are ways of preserving it despite the tall buildings, or even that it doesn't exist... but he feel of the development along the major roads tells you nothing about the feel of the residential areas behind.

Walking along Greenhill and Park Lanes the wasted opportunity of Greenhill Road frontage becomes evident. There should be an eight-storey minimum height for Greenhill Road developments between Cooke Terrace and Unley Road, especially given the N-S situation prevents overshadowing. Any arguments of privacy could be mitigated with reduced height at the southern aspect.

I understand why councils in Eastern and inner Northern/Southern suburbs don't want development but there should be an exception west of Unley Road.

Aren't they demolishing half of Smithfield and Daveron Park and replacing it with new housing?. I noticed when I drove through the area months ago, that there was so much vacant land around existing streets.

The only part of Smithfield that has been redeveloped is the part that borders Curtis road and they only did that because you can see it from Munno Para West. The rest of the area has remained mainly untouched. The only place they are building new homes in Davoren Park is on what was already vacant land.

There are many under-utilised parks and shopping centres in the current suburbs that could do with a makeover but instead we are getting a new parks and new shopping centres in the new areas.

Once again developers have taken the easy option and despite this being bank rolled with tax payer money the government have let them get away with it.

AN OVERHAUL of Woodville West is beginning to take shape, with more than 35 apartments sold in a housing development next to Albert Park railway station.

The $130 million development, known as The Square, involves 180 homes - the majority owned by Housing SA - being razed and replaced with 450 townhouses, apartments, lofts and villas.

Project sales consultant Chris McCauley said several small parks had been built and work on cycling and walking paths would soon be underway.

He said he expected nine more completed apartments, at the corner of West Lakes Blvd and Clark Tce, to be sold within four weeks.

"The apartments are attracting young professionals aged in their 20s and 30s who want easy access to the city," Mr McCauley said.

"These people will likely grow out of the apartments when they want families but they can see the future rental value because they are only 150m from the Grange train line which goes into the city."

Mr McCauley said Woodville West was one of several western suburbs, such as Ferryden Park, which were being overhauled from Housing SA precincts into solid investment opportunities.

"A lot of buyers have been able to take advantage of both the first homeowner's grant and new construction grants, which could apply to them."

The project will include some properties held exclusively for first home buyers for 90 days and social housing for people with disabilitites.

About 35 residents have already move into the development, including Rosslyn Lauder, who said it was the proximity to both the beach and city which drew her back to the western suburbs after living in Glenside for 19 years.

"It is really great to see how much the are has grown since I left," Ms Lauder said.

"I looked at Glenelg and Norwood but this just felt like it was better value and I could not be happier here."

A spokeswoman for Renewal SA said the homes were selling faster than forecast.

The remaining sales will mark the end of the project's first stage, with a further five stages to be completed.

The development, which is planned to include a central square with shops, public art spaces and a cafe, playground and plaza, is expected to be finished in 2018.

It appears Harris Scarfe at Centro Colonnades is not progressing very far. Previous reports suggested it may open by Christmas 2012. When that did not eventuate, we thought it might happen after the opening of their Rundle Place store, but still no word as to when it will actually happen :roll: I am awaiting a response to my email to them... [edit: email returned undeliverable] Left a query on their Facebook page...

There are currently a number of vacant premises and a handful of short term lease businesses (including a motorcycle shop). Considering the size of the local population, it never seems to get really busy apart from the food court :shock:

Harris Scarfe Hi Rene. Our Colonnades store opening has been rescheduled to early next year unfortunately. The building in which we will be situated is being built still. The good news is that because of the extra time, we are now able to open a full line store and not just a hs home store.

So it looks like we'll have to wait a few months while they get themselves organised :roll:

What? This section of the centre was only built 7 or so years ago. They're actually expanding the building themselves? This seems quite strange.

This has been dragging on for well over a year now, I can't even remember what store was there before it closed.

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, but ill put it out there anyway , and a shout out to amusement facilities no.1 fan PushButton..... there is a massive "adventure playground" under contrsuction, apparently bigger than St Kilda, at Pelican Point. Near Outer Harbour and the sSubmarine Corp, for those who don't know the area. This is actually a great idea!!!!! and the have opened access to the port in the area again for us fisho's :applause:

I guess they're still trying to work out if they're a discount department store or a high end department store too :lol:

The $2 million, two-storey complex would also be a manufacturing site for the American brand and would distribute the doughnuts to other Krispy Kreme franchises, which the company plans to open throughout Adelaide.

A convenience store and a new service station are also planned for the site, near Port Rd's intersection with Rosetta St, about 5km from the CBD.

For years lovers of the doughnuts have been forced to bring them home from the eastern states.

Peregrine Corporation - which owns the On The Run fuel and retail outlets - has lodged plans for the Port Rd store with Charles Sturt Council. The company has also applied for approval from Salisbury Council for another outlet at Port Wakefield.

Krispy Kreme general manager Mark Higginbottom said more than 30 jobs would be created by the Port Rd store's opening. Another 30 are expected to be created at Port Wakefield.

"We hope to introduce this brand to SA six months from the date of receiving a council approval," Mr Higginbotham said.

He said Peregrine would spend $10 million over the next three years on building Krispy Kreme outlets and marketing the brand in SA.

The company is also planning a shop in the CBD after the Port Rd and Port Wakefield sites are established. The brand is now sold in 21 countries.

Mr Higginbotham said the company had consulted residents near the Port Rd site and he did not expect any complaints.

Residents can view plans for the outlet at West Croydon on the council's website, http://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au.

Submissions are open until tomorrow (Thursday, June 20).

Port Wakefield? OrPort Wakefield Road? Both locations don't really seem quite right.
Considering the former is outside the Salisbury Council area, I think it must be Port Wakefield Road.

At a time when we're doing so much to focus on mixed use walkable neighbourhoods, how is it good news that we're getting a sprawled single-use suburban drive through?

I don't mind if they want to open a store front along a road, or in the food court of a shopping centre, but a drive-through in it's own deattached single-use building, with it's own dedicated parking and all??
