Yes I was there. Wasnt a massive amount on the new stand, mostly to do with voting for ammendments to the constitution, financials, voting for giving Les Burdett lifetime membership. In regards to the redevelopment they showed much of what was shown during the last meeting that focused on the SMA to enlighten the new members that were recently taken on board. I can say that the plans for the further expsansion of the ground is very detailed and looks well on track. If permission is granted by the members construction will begin in early 2012 and be complete by the end of 2014 for both stands. It is estimated that 15-17m was spent on the preservation of hertitage element of the western stand and probaly a crap load of time.Did you go to the SMA meeting last night?(Due to work I couldn't make it:( )Differentiating the 'best' seats with burgundy seats, ala the MCC Members reseve at the MCG souns like it could work visually, I'll be in town on Friday, I hope to take more pics friday arvo, only one week since my last visit, not expecting huge progress.
The SACA is looking at upgrading Oval no.2 to 1st grade level for a backup oval in case of any clashing events, at the moment Glenelgt is considered to be the back up oval. If redevelopment goes ahead the board is looking at incorporating structures such as the Clem Hill stand to improve oval 2's ammenities. They are also looking at a 50%-60% car usage to get to the redeveloped ground on match days (done through a independant surveying co.), 5000 - 10000 carparks are already available on that side of the city at possible match times. The usual parking will also be utilised around the ground and the parking off the Hilton Bridges on the north side of the Torrens will be upgraded to hold around 1000 cars. No talk of a multi story carpark at this stage. Dont forget that not every match of every sport will attract 50,000 people so not all of this will be needed every week.
They also mentioned FIFA compliability, 2 A-league matches and the Rugby 7s and the possibility of increasing concerts and Rugby League matches staged at the ground. They are considering other sports that they can hold to increase revenue as much as possible. The fact remains though that Adelaide does not have a League or Union team and has Hindmarsh stadium for football. Theres only so much they can do at this stage. Chances are that they will get more events once everthing is up and running.
