Did you go to the SMA meeting last night?(Due to work I couldn't make it:( )Differentiating the 'best' seats with burgundy seats, ala the MCC Members reseve at the MCG souns like it could work visually, I'll be in town on Friday, I hope to take more pics friday arvo, only one week since my last visit, not expecting huge progress.
Yes I was there. Wasnt a massive amount on the new stand, mostly to do with voting for ammendments to the constitution, financials, voting for giving Les Burdett lifetime membership. In regards to the redevelopment they showed much of what was shown during the last meeting that focused on the SMA to enlighten the new members that were recently taken on board. I can say that the plans for the further expsansion of the ground is very detailed and looks well on track. If permission is granted by the members construction will begin in early 2012 and be complete by the end of 2014 for both stands. It is estimated that 15-17m was spent on the preservation of hertitage element of the western stand and probaly a crap load of time.

The SACA is looking at upgrading Oval no.2 to 1st grade level for a backup oval in case of any clashing events, at the moment Glenelgt is considered to be the back up oval. If redevelopment goes ahead the board is looking at incorporating structures such as the Clem Hill stand to improve oval 2's ammenities. They are also looking at a 50%-60% car usage to get to the redeveloped ground on match days (done through a independant surveying co.), 5000 - 10000 carparks are already available on that side of the city at possible match times. The usual parking will also be utilised around the ground and the parking off the Hilton Bridges on the north side of the Torrens will be upgraded to hold around 1000 cars. No talk of a multi story carpark at this stage. Dont forget that not every match of every sport will attract 50,000 people so not all of this will be needed every week.

They also mentioned FIFA compliability, 2 A-league matches and the Rugby 7s and the possibility of increasing concerts and Rugby League matches staged at the ground. They are considering other sports that they can hold to increase revenue as much as possible. The fact remains though that Adelaide does not have a League or Union team and has Hindmarsh stadium for football. Theres only so much they can do at this stage. Chances are that they will get more events once everthing is up and running.

It is of a similar construction to AAMI Park in Melbourne.
I hope not. AAMI park is ugly.

When it comes to seat colouring I think you need a colour which will provide
a contrast to the colour of the grass.

Those lime green seats are the same colour as the grass and it looks like rubbish.

Now I'm confused. The Hilton Bridges are nowhere near the Torrens, in fact they are some way south of it. :?

Sorry not the Hilton bridges  . Anyhoo, The Morphett st bridges that cross the rail tracks then the Torrens. Small parking facility at the mo on the left (when heading North) and the convention centre on right. Parking is actually on south side of the river not north off festival Dr. (just had a look on google maps).

Kasey been way for a week or so. Got onto this on S-A - where is the location relative to the rest of the stands is the one in the last pic? I am familiar enough with Adelaide oval b ut this one is hard to figure. Thanks for the help.

BTW - I believe strikng colours for seats would greatly enhance the overall impact of the stadium. (could be colour coded re costs of seats)

@Skyliner:
That last picture is taken from the carpark adjacent to the AO southern gates, looking west at the Memorial Drive Tennis stadium. I included it as the seating colour looked to be a close match to what was being installed in the new Western Stand. Hope I didn't confuse you mate, SACA haven't been hiding a completed stand out of view of all of us. :)

Things to note
* green seats almost complete in southern most section
* concrete for the centre of the lower bowl ready to be poured,
* work has commenced on the 4th roof bubble(#1 being most southern section)
* what the hell is with those white behind posts! don't SACA know we use Red behind posts in this state..the AFL strikes again - won't be long before they get their wish and remove all traces of SANFL individuality - "AFL-SA" is on their agenda allegedly:(

Wayno, that's a great pic, thanks, it clearly shows the way this new stand will dominate (in a good way IMO) the whole ground. Majestically:)

Yes it does dominate and in a good way but what will it look like with the new southern and eastern stand which will be of different heights.
Clearly they should stick to the same height and roof style for the other stands. No gaps would be good with the eastern stand going
all the way around to connect with the western stand. Cant understand this fixation with the heritage. What heritage they have
taken down every other stand other than the old scoreboard. The scoreboad should be moved and become part of the new grandstands.
But i guess the cricket fans love having a barbie under the fig tree's over a 5 day test match.
